As many have seen and heard, there was a fire at the Derrick St camp, also known as The Slab, yesterday afternoon here in Huntsville. This is the largest single camp in the city. While we are thankful that no one was seriously injured, this fire was still devastating to some of our unhoused clients as many lost all their possessions. At First Stop we are dedicated to helping our clients through our Outreach team and will be working with them over the coming days to help replace what supplies and resources we can to ensure the safety and health of our unhoused clients. While the need for assistance is always great, an unfortunate incident such as this only compounds the need for groups in the Huntsville area to support those struggling with homelessness. Joining with our partners and friends such as Shower Up Huntsville, ROSS Madison County, Refuge Church, City of Huntsville, AL and others, we will continue to offer our support, resources and facilities to our clients in need and work together to provide sustainable and safe resources in the coming days and beyond. Anyone wishing to donate supplies, time or other resources can do so through First Stop in Huntsville at 206 Stokes Street, or can visit our website at www.firststop.org To donate: https://lnkd.in/g_hfbnsu To volunteer: https://lnkd.in/eJ7drw-E #EncounterConnectEmpower #FirstStop

Did you know our enrichment programs aren’t just contained to our day center? A group of our clients recently went on a field trip to the North Huntsville Library’s Workforce Development Lab, where they worked under the expert instruction of Tracie Collier on resumes. A big thank you to Traci and the Huntsville library staff for working with our clients! If you’d like to help out with our enrichment program, get in touch with Shannon.Curry@FirstStop.org to learn more about our classes! #FirstStop #EncounterConnectEmpower
