Fun photo following a serious meeting👏🙃 (sorry everyone else who’d left before Wendy remembered to take one 🤣) Thanks to Queensland Farmers' Federation for hosting the first meeting of the Community & Industry Advisory Group for the Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) Regional Connect training pilot 💡💥💭 We need to engage more respectfully and effectively in the regions and we believe the gap is not more technical engagement skills but rather helping people understand HOW to engage in the regions… We have been working with communities, landholders, experienced stakeholder engagement practitioners and industry for over a year to develop #RegionaConnect… so it was super exciting to have this first formal CIAG meeting to shape and inform the finalisation of the program. Shout out to the amazing skilled and connected group members for generously sharing their time and wisdom today!! Very cool to see the scribe of a virtual panel that Wendy Agar facilitated last week for the Queensland Renewable Energy code development workshop! It was a fantastic opportunity to bring the voice of #localgovernment into the room to share their experiences, ideas and perspectives with the group from their 3 very different regions. Thank you to Mayor Melissa Hamilton Southern Downs Regional Council Mayor Andrew Smith Western Downs Regional Council and cr Shane McCarthy from Flinders Shire Council for their generousity and good humour (and for being such good sports when Wendy tapped you on the shoulder to ‘volunteer’ 🤣) “If you are not at the table it’s likely you are on the menu” I love this quote from Peta Ashworth OAM from the Curtin University Institute for the Energy Transition at the wheatbelt WA Local Government Association (WALGA) Conference at NorthM last week… our intent is to do our bit so we DO NOT have our Councils on the menu up here (although you can see from Shane’s experience documented below we have some work to do!!!) Thanks to the incredible Alex Wisman for capturing some of the key points of their messages as they spoke!!! 👏🙌 #renewables #rurual #remote #strongercommunities #leadership

“Time is the most valuable thing you can spend in a community” What an awesome Power Hour virtual forum this morning exploring the topic ‘Understanding Coexistence’! Number 3 in the series and it was a cracker!! 💥 Key takeaways: 🔎 coexistence is getting to mutually beneficial outcomes for communities, landholders and industry 🔎start with respect and listen 🔎communicate clearly and regularly, and act with integrity. 🔎agriculture is a complex business and each one is different, so don’t make any assumptions. 🔎developers need to create an authorising environment and be on the same page internally for engagement teams to develop coexistence relationships. Oh and so many more!! Massive thank you to our keynote speaker Warwick Squire, and our expert panelists Brent Finlay Georgie Somerset Chris Wicks for sharing your experiences, providing such valuable insights and perspectives… and keeping it real 💥❤️👏🙌 Can’t wait for our September Power Hour… ‘understanding lessons from CSG’… will keep you posted!!! #regional #rural #renewables #strongercommunities #bettertogether

How do we support effective and respectful engagement in regional, rural and remote Queensland during the energy transition? We believe part of the solution is to develop better cultural understanding rather than more technical skills. It was great to be part of a conversation with the Queensland Renewable Energy Council (QREC) Coexistence & Community Working Group recently to seek their feedback and guidance on our proposed training pilot to address this gap. “We just need to get this work started” was the resounding message… and we couldn’t agree more!! Exciting to be working with Katie-Anne Mulder and her team to finalise the pilot details and get this show on the road!! 👏🙌💥 #engagement #renewables #regional #strongercommunities #bettertogether
