Recently had one of those beautiful moments talking to an Equa user where I was keenly reminded of why I do this work. He was a family physician who, tragically, had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer right after he retired. Death and grief were dominating his thought cycles, and he came to Equa because he wanted his remaining time with his family to be filled with joy and connection – not fear and sadness. This all came out when I asked a simple question: "At what point did you realize Equa was something you wanted to keep going with?" His response left me with goosebumps. And a major realization. "It wasn't one point necessarily. Sometime around day 5 or 6, I realized I was having less of these thoughts. And the more I practiced, the less I had. So I kept going." In the health tech space, it’s easy to find ourselves backed into a paradigm of "AI" and "gamification" as solutions to keeping users engaged. In my eyes, any retention conversation starting there misses the point. We are building tools to help people realize the outcomes that brought them to our solution in the first place. It is our job at Equa to help people understand their progress, in terms that matter to them, so that they can move forward with confidence. If they are seeing adequate progress, they are getting the value they came for. Their retained loyalty will be a beautiful upshot.

The rate of mental illness in teenage girls has increased significantly and one of the biggest factors isn't what many believed. One important takeaway is that, although there are many factors to consider, social media usage was the standout input leading to the upwards trend.
