Canoo’s latest 8-K filing with the SEC paints a challenging picture. Canoo spent $1.7 million on CEO Tony Aquila's private jet bills, twice its 2023 revenue, causing significant controversy. Canoo’s latest 8-K filing with the SEC shows as of October 30, Canoo reported that its cash and cash equivalents had dwindled to just $4.51 million, which is precariously low for a company still in a high-burn, low-revenue growth phase. The company’s financials for the first half of 2024 show a staggering net loss of $117.6 million. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gvNs9Mtj Despite its early promise and some high-profile projects—like electric vehicles for NASA’s Artemis program—Canoo has faced persistent difficulties, including limited deliveries and minimal revenue generation. For the full previous year, the company generated only $886,000 in revenue from delivering a mere 22 vehicles. To keep the company afloat, Canoo has had to turn to unconventional financing sources, including loans from a fund associated with its CEO, Tony Aquila. In its October 30 filing, Canoo disclosed a $2.7 million loan from this fund, following a previous $1.2 million loan disclosed on October 18 with an 11% interest rate. According to The Oklahoman, Canoo will furlough 30 employees at its Oklahoma City assembly site, leaving these workers without pay for 12 weeks. Canoo recently relocated its headquarters from Los Angeles to Texas, part of a broader restructuring effort. With the incoming administration, there’s a lot of speculation about what will happen to the US electric vehicle (EV) industry in 2025. Most analysts agree the “Detroit” companies General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler parent Stellantis would be the biggest winners. Obviously, Tesla stands to benefit as it has already seen a huge jump in stocks as election results were announced. Tesla CEO Elon Musk may take a position in the new administration. The new administration could defund or limit federal EV subsidies and incentives, hurting Rivian Automotive, Lucid Group, Canoo, and others. Auto industry insiders said it would be difficult for the new administration to completely gut the IRA, as billions of dollars has been spent to build EV and clean energy factories. One thing is for certain, the EV revolution is far to widespread and integrated into the automotive industry now to be fully stopped. It can only be slowed. A big problem with government cutting funding for EVs is that American carmakers will fall further behind China in global EV sales. Doing that will be a disaster for America’s economy. What's your opinion? Will Canoo survive 2025? What will be the incoming administration's impacts on the EV industry? Have you ordered your Volvo Cars EX30 yet? Deliveries to the US will occur this year, instead of a previously announced delay to 2025. The EX30 is Volvo’s smallest and most affordable electric vehicle to date. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/eYmw36eD The EX30 was unveiled in Milan in 2023. Volvo Car USA has decided to prioritize deliveries of the powerful 422-hp EX30 Twin Motor Performance model, offered in Plus and Ultra trims, starting at an MSRP of $44,900. The Single Motor variant is still slated for a U.S. launch in 2025. For those with preorder reservations, Volvo is inviting customers to configure their EX30s on its website, with configurations opening up in time for these initial deliveries. Michael Cottone, President, Volvo Car USA and Canada, broke the exciting news. With a charging capacity of up to 153 kW, the EX30’s Twin Motor Performance variant offers an impressive EPA range of 253 miles. Its fast-charging capability allows the battery to go from 10 to 80 percent in just over 25 minutes. At a price comparable to traditional combustion engine SUVs, it provides a premium, all-electric option with a minimal carbon footprint—the smallest of any Volvo EV to date. The EX30’s exceptional design and functionality have already been recognized with awards such as Popular Science’s Best of What’s New 2023, 2024 World Urban Car of the Year, and the Red Dot Best of the Best Product Design 2024. The initial batch of Volvo EX30s for the U.S. market will be manufactured in China, but Volvo plans to shift production to its Ghent, Belgium, facility. This transition is strategic, as EVs imported from China currently face a 100% tariff, which significantly impacts their cost in the U.S. market. By moving production to Belgium, Volvo can avoid these tariffs, helping to keep the EX30 competitively priced. While Volvo is known for its Swedish roots, it is part of Geely, the Chinese company that also owns Polestar and Lotus. The Department of Commerce issued a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPRM) that would, if finalized as proposed, prohibit the sale or import of connected vehicles that incorporate certain technology and the import of particular components themselves from countries of concern, specifically China and Russia. This could cause Volvo, and many other OEMs, massive problems if enacted. It's unclear if the incoming administration will support it. What's your opinion of Volvo and the EX30? EVinfo.net loves its small size, fast acceleration, and fast charging time. A game-changer for sure. We highly recommend it and all Volvo EVs. Lithium battery fires are a HOT TOPIC. When I posted a video of an e-bike fire recently, a HEATED discussion ensued in my comments section. Well, let me tell you some EXCITING NEWS. Full Circle Lithium Corp., a USA-based lithium-ion firefighting agent product manufacturer, announced the resounding success of its innovative proprietary lithium-ion battery firefighting agent – FCL-X. The product quickly and safely extinguished controlled burns of two electric vehicles – a Nissan Leaf (less than 5 minutes) and a Kia EV9 (less than 6 minutes) – with no reignition. See the PR on EVinfo.net: https://lnkd.in/gfjXnVmY The most important things to remember about lithium fires is that they are real. However, extensive misinformation, disinformation and fake news has been spread by EV opponents about these fires, in an attempt to slow EV adoption. Most so-called "News" about lithium fires people see is FAKE. Don't be fooled. See the link in my comment on this post for more. Organized by the technical team at FCL-X™’s US distributor AEST Fire & Safety (“AEST”) with the assistance of regional expert firefighters in Jefferson, Troup, and Harris County, Georgia, FCL demonstrated the effectiveness of FCL-X™ in two real-life EV fires. The demonstrations used the FCL-X Pro™ concentrate product. The first burn was performed on a fully functioning 2014 Nissan Leaf with a 40-kWh battery at approximately 50% battery charge. Firefighters started extinguishing the vehicle only after it was fully engulfed in flames and the battery was in a full thermal runaway. The fire was first attacked with an extinguisher and immediately after with a 30-gallon per minute (gpm) pressure hose and nozzle. The fire was under control in less than five minutes while using less than 250g of FCL-X™. The second burn was performed on a Kia EV9 with a 77kWh battery at approximately 95% battery charge. AEST’s team of firefighters ignited the vehicle by puncturing the battery from the back seat and started extinguishing the vehicle only after it was fully engulfed in flames and the battery was in full thermal runaway.  The fire was under control in less than six minutes. “FCL-X™, a proprietary product under patent application, is the first and only product in the world that we are aware of to truly extinguish lithium-ion battery fires, from small to large EV batteries,” said David Laviner, Founder & President of AEST. Carlos Vicens, CEO and Director of FCL stated, “We are on the verge of something transformative for the fire and safety industry." EVinfo.net congratulates Carlos Vicens, CEO and Director of FCL, and the FCL team for this amazing accomplishment. The GM Envolve team showcased the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Tahoe, and Silverado Police Pursuit Vehicles at a California Highway Patrol (CHP) testing event in Sacramento, California. General Motors’s strong EVs are quickly gaining market share in the US every quarter, soon to be number one. Its first responder EVs are leading the US electric vehicle first responder market. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/gtk2wrSN Cody C., Regional Director, GM Envolve – Western U.S., spoke with EVinfo.net about the GM Envolve team’s participation in the CHP testing event in Sacramento. Collins said: “This weekend, the GM Envolve team had an incredible opportunity to showcase the Chevrolet Blazer EV, Tahoe, Silverado (Police Pursuit Vehicles) at the California Highway Patrol (CHP) testing event in Sacramento. Watching the game-changing, all-electric Blazer EV PPV in action was inspiring — it represents not just a commitment to innovation, but a bold step towards a more sustainable future for law enforcement.” Tesla’s strong position in the EV market, bolstered by its expansive Supercharger network, has made it a popular option for fleets looking to transition to electric vehicles. However, efforts to use Teslas as police vehicles have not had great success. Three police Chiefs said “Teslas are not equipped to handle the demands of modern policing.” SFGATE reported that in August 2024, Ukiah Police Department Chief Cedric Crook made a significant move toward electrification by proposing the purchase of two Tesla Model 3 sedans for the department, which he presented to the City Council for approval. The total cost, including the vehicles and $35,000 in necessary modifications to make them suitable for patrol use, came to nearly $150,000. The council agreed to the purchase, supporting the department’s shift toward EVs. However, after initial testing, the department encountered several challenges with the Model 3s. The vehicle’s smaller size posed difficulties in securely transporting suspects, and officers found it cumbersome to enter and exit the cars quickly. “I’m not ready to put an officer in a Tesla,” Crook said. GM's Envolve solutions are best for police and fire work. Highly recommended by EVinfo.net. Through GM Envolve, a range of vehicles suited for both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric vehicle (EV) needs, including models like the Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and the 2024 BrightDrop Zevo 600. To enhance fleet performance and management, GM Envolve offers various services, such as OnStar for connectivity and safety, GM Energy for efficient energy use, GM Financial for financing solutions, and data analytics for valuable fleet insights. First ELECTRIC Air Taxi flight in Japan! Toyota Motor Corporation and Joby Aviation, Inc. reached a significant milestone in their partnership with the completion of Joby’s first international exhibition flight this week. This event took place at Toyota’s Higashi-Fuji Technical Center in Shizuoka, Japan, marking an important step towards the commercialization of electric air taxis. EVinfo.net typically talks about land-based electric vehicles, however that is just the tip of the electric iceberg. Electric aircraft is a fast-growing business as well. See EVinfo.net's article: https://lnkd.in/g6YaJdHU Throughout their collaboration, Toyota has shared valuable insights from its extensive automotive manufacturing and technology expertise, helping to refine Joby’s aircraft design and production processes. Notably, Toyota engineers now work alongside Joby’s team in California. Together, Toyota and Joby are strategically positioned in the growing sector of urban air mobility, aiming to create an integrated transportation ecosystem that combines ground and air solutions. This flight showcases Joby Aviation’s electric air taxi technology outside of the United States, highlighting the potential for international applications of their aircraft. This successful flight marks a step closer to Joby’s goal of launching commercial air taxi services. Joby Aviation is focused on creating all-electric air taxis that are designed to provide efficient, quiet, and environmentally friendly electric transportation. Their aircraft aims to reduce congestion by providing on-demand air travel. Joby’s electric air taxi is designed to transport a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, providing high-speed mobility with zero operating emissions and significantly less noise compared to helicopters. Toyota has announced investing additional $500M in Joby. Toyota’s total financial backing for Joby will reach $894M, including establishing a manufacturing alliance to facilitate the initial phase of commercialization. Toyota has faced criticism from EV advocates for its slow movement so far into battery electric vehicles (BEVs), favoring hybrids. Many EV experts believe it's too late for Toyota. EVinfo.net disagrees. In America, Toyota has a huge and loyal customer base. Mass EV adoption is close to happening, and when it starts, this will kick off great opportunity for Toyota and others to sell EVs. Having an early advantage helps OEMs with the EV transition, such as General Motors and Hyundai Motor America's strong EVs, which gain US market share every quarter. But there's still room for the laggards to succeed.
