🌐 Great 2 days @ OASC Conference 2025 in Tampere, Finland! Riga Digital Agency Laine Celma Edgars Indriksons had the pleasure of attending this year’s Open & Agile Smart Cities (OASC) conference, and we are leaving inspired by the knowledge shared. This event brought together innovators, city leaders and experts to discuss how to build smarter, more sustainable and resilient cities for the future. Here are our key takeaways: 1️⃣ Interoperability as the Cornerstone of Smart Cities The focus on open standards and interoperability was front and center. As highlighted in the sessions, frameworks like the MIMs (Minimal Interoperability Mechanisms) are critical to ensuring that smart city solutions are scalable and vendor-neutral. Greatly done by Michael Mulquin Standards and Best Practices “Standards define success.” Whether it’s environmental requirements, safety protocols, or APIs for urban platforms, clear, open standards ensure that smart city solutions are cohesive, cost-effective and easier to implement. 2️⃣ Data as the Fuel for Innovation Discussions emphasized the importance of data marketplaces and integration platforms, such as FIWARE, to streamline how cities manage, store, and leverage data across various systems and stakeholders. Inspired by Tampereen kaupunki - City of Tampere Teppo Rantanen Markku Niemi 3️⃣ Human-Centered Digital Transformation Beyond technology, we were reminded of the importance of human-centric design. Cities must prioritize citizens’ needs when deploying AI and IoT technologies, creating solutions that genuinely improve lives. Happy to be part of Living in EU Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC) Eurocities ERRIN and special thanks to Gabriela Ruseva and Rodolphe Doité Jonas Onland #LORDIMAS 4️⃣ Collaboration is Key From the insightful case studies to the informal discussions, the spirit of collaboration—between cities, private sector, and academia—was a strong theme throughout the event. Together, we can unlock the full potential of smart cities and tools for LDT. Great collaboration within the #EDIC on Local digital Twins & Citiverse eith Patricia Tamarit and @Valencia and @Barcelona cities We’re returning to Riga with a renewed commitment to applying these insights to the work we do with local governments and smart city initiatives. A big thank you to OASC - Karl-Filip Coenegrachts Martin Brynskov Sophie Meszaros Judith Stiekema Alex Gluhak ExPEDite project Virginie Verstraete Seppo Haataja Jarmo Eskelinen and all the speakers for hosting such an impactful event. Here’s to a smarter, more connected future! 🚀 #SmartCities #Innovation #OpenStandards #DigitalTransformation #RigaDigitalAgency #OASC #EDIC #5G

Why did I want to move to Finland? What criteria did I use to choose a city? Why is Tampere considered the most attractive city for residents of Finland? What parameters are important to citizens? Safety, reliable infrastructure, and the efficiency of the city are crucial for me: how well the city understands entrepreneurs, the quality of the services it provides, environmental sustainability, and the safety of roads and playgrounds. When I travel somewhere, whether for vacation or a conference, safety and infrastructure play an equally important role. During "OASC Artificial Intelligence for Smarter Communities" conference I witnessed how the brightest minds work to make cities the best places to live, caring for people. They work on safety, the rational use of resources, and come together not to engage in hostile competition, but to find effective, collaborative strategic solutions and learn from each other’s experience and mistakes to achieve the best results for their citizens. These people don’t live in the present—they live in the future. What we see today, they addressed in the past. They are already tackling the challenges of the future. I understand how important this is. They view AI as an assistant. Many people see AI as a challenge they can’t handle, something that terrifies them. At our company we see a huge goal to help entrepreneurs integrate AI and help them understand that it’s neither difficult nor dangerous. I wanna share a little more because OASC people are visionaries. At conferences, they constantly ask where AI should not interfere, what areas we should leave untouched by AI. But I am confident that the future is in the reliable hands of thoughtful and experienced people. Thank you Open & Agile Smart Cities & Communities (OASC): Karl-Filip Coenegrachts, Anni Joela, Albert Engels, Roland van der Heijden, Ivy Yang, PhD , Alex Gluhak, Gert Hilgers, Vincent Demortier, Judith Stiekema, Michael Mulquin, Dr. Anniina Autero, Elisabeth Beck Knudsen Great and very innovative guests who came to Tampere to exchange experience: Tatsuo Igarashi for the great Tsukuba city tech innovations presentation, Göran Hellström, Janez Furlan, Andreas Sundberg, Jesper Algren, Carl-Maria MÖRCH, Dražen Lučanin, Edgars Indriksons, Kristine Alanko, Yasunori Mochizuki, Albert Engels It was an honor to meet you and hear about your achievements! And also a "change makers" who are working hard to make or better future happen: Markku Niemi, Vincent Demortier, Giusi (Josephine) Di Pino , Jari Kuusisto, Heikkilä Mika, Sebastian Valkama, Vesa-Matti Ruottinen, Jonas Onland And certainly, the city of Tampere which hosted the event. Teppo Rantanen, Jouni Markkanen - I am deeply grateful for the event and for the absolutely great city I live in.
