Today begins National Multiethnic Donor Awareness Month, a collaborative effort led by the National Organ, Eye, and Tissue Donation Multicultural Action Group (NMAG), of which EBAA is a proud member. In the United States the need for lifesaving organs far exceeds the supply - the national transplant waiting list stands at more than 100,000 people. 60% of people on the waiting list represent racial and ethnic minorities. Tragically, 16 people die each day waiting for a transplant. This month and all year long, we elevate the need for more eye, organ, and tissue donors within multicultural communities, provide donation education, encourage donor registration, and promote healthy living and disease prevention to decrease the need for transplantation.
