Happy Earth Day! 🌎 Earlier this month, Fera Pets, Inc. and Earth Animal funded a beach clean-up and education sessions on plastics in the community of Buenaventura, Colombia through our partnership with rePurpose Global. We set out with a goal of collecting and recovering 30,000 pounds of low-value plastic from their beaches and we’re excited to share an update on our progress towards this goal. So far, we’ve recovered 21,670 pounds of waste – but still have approximately 26,400 pounds waiting to be recovered at the materials recovery facility. When all is said and done, we will have surpassed our goal by about 18,000 pounds – a huge testament to the hard work of rePurpose Global and their volunteers! Earth Month is here, and we’re excited to share something big we have planned! Together, Fera Pets, Inc. and Earth Animal are funding a beach clean-up and education sessions on plastics in the community of Buenaventura, Colombia through our partnership with rePurpose Global. Buenaventura, on Colombia’s Pacific coast, is surrounded by natural beauty. The area is a popular tourist destination known for its beaches, biodiverse national parks, and whale watching. Breeding grounds for hundreds of migrating humpback whales sit just off the coast. Unfortunately, this ecological hotspot sits in a remote corner of Colombia that has a severe plastic pollution problem. From April 9-12, rePurpose Global will be on the ground in Buenaventura, collecting low-value plastic, with the goal of recovering 30,000 pounds. This plastic will then be processed at recyclers to create recyclable pellets and flakes for use in further products as suitable.
