Fueling the Energy Transition

About us

First Ammonia is developing the world’s first modular, commercial-scale plants to produce green ammonia from intermittent renewable energy. First Ammonia’s plants will be the first to use solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) technology for hydrogen electrolysis. It has secured a supply of 5GW of electrolyzers from Topsoe of Denmark with the world’s largest ever electrolyzer capacity reservation agreement. First Ammonia is acquiring the best project sites in the world with access to low cost renewable energy, generous subsidies for capex, and the prospect for subsidized offtake. Green ammonia will play a central role in global decarbonization in agriculture, power generation and storage and transportation as a renewable energy-based transportation fuel that is carbon-free end to end. With a headquarters office in New York, First Ammonia will operate production facilities on five continents, with the help of our larger engineering and project development team who sit in our other office locations in Houston-Texas, Berlin-Germany, and Copenhagen-Denmark.

CEO Joel Moser on The Energy Forum, a podcast by Rice University's Baker Institute Center for Energy Studies (CES): "Hydrogen is H₂. And ammonia is NH₃. There is a challenge with using hydrogen. It is explosive. It is the smallest molecule... and it is very expensive to store and transport it. Ammonia is hydrogen light. That nitrogen calms the hydrogen down so it is easy to transport and store... I think ammonia will be the long-term winner" Thanks to Ed Emmett for the interview! It was a privilege to discuss ammonia's use as a future fuel in the transport sector and why the future ammonia industry is an incredible opportunity for Texas' continued energy leadership.    https://lnkd.in/gdgX9QhH

  • Part of the excitement of building a next-generation electric ammonia plant is sharing that experience with students across the United States.    Last week, CEO Joel Moser had the privilege of speaking to Professor Lynn Loo's class at Princeton University as the William Pierson Field Lecturer. A debate on the merits of the different forms of ammonia production ensued. Thank you, Professor Loo, for having us as part of your class!    Then on Friday, MBA Candidates from the MIT Sloan School of Management's MIT Sloan Energy & Climate Club came to the First Ammonia offices to learn more about the future of the ammonia industry and the role electric ammonia will play. We were glad they could join us on their New York trip.

What a pleasure it was to finally meet the supportive community in Victoria, Texas — Mayor Duane Crocker and the team at the Victoria Economic Development Corporation to name a few. It was also great to see our site, and see the Port of Victoria's leadership in action to cultivate the next generation of projects alongside our own. This trip with my colleagues Lee Raymond, Joanna Basilio and Shay Soltani, has been an encouraging one that reinforces our strong belief that First Ammonia has chosen the right location to build our first facility. We are excited to do our part to contribute to the energy transition.

  • Happy 100th Birthday to Victoria College! It was great for our extended team to be on the ground in Victoria during this centennial milestone

𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗼... The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees voted on February 4, 1925 to establish Victoria Junior College (now Victoria College) as an extension of Patti Welder High School (now Patti Welder Middle School), making VC one of the oldest community colleges in Texas. The motion was made by Frank H. Crain, Sr. and seconded by Herman Fischer. Today, we were honored to commemorate this historic occasion at Patti Welder with VC and VISD leaders and special guests, including Mr. Crain's granddaughters, Bebe Crain, Pam Crain, and Julie Heinitsh. Cheers to 100 years! #VC100 #VictoriaCollege #Centennial
