The Flansburgh team recently visited the Bill ’67 and Peter ’71 Alfond Coastal Research Center at The Governor's Academy’s Academy in Byfield, MA. The tour was jointly led by the Director of the Bass Institute, the Director of Facilities, and the Design Team. The group explored the facility and learned how the center has become a focal point for interdisciplinary learning, supporting not only the sciences, but also art, math, history, and student well-being. The center’s connection to the Great Marsh enhances its serene atmosphere, offering students a retreat for focused study. Through partnerships with various organizations, the center hosts guest scientists and supports conservation efforts, including a program researching Blanding’s turtles, a threatened species in Massachusetts.  Highlights of the tour included visiting the wet lab, and the exploring the facility’s connection to the surrounding ecosystem. The team enjoyed strolling on the elevated, low-impact ramp through the woodland, an environmentally sensitive transition to the coastal marsh. Along this path, students have developed an educational nature walk, offering signage to inform visitors about the local flora and fauna. Envisioning the Future at Escola Americana de Campinas David Croteau and Madeleine Le recently visited Escola Americana de Campinas (EAC) to begin the development of a new master plan. Immersed in the verdant 15-acre campus, The Flansburgh team participated in an in-depth tour of the campus grounds, capturing photographs of the rich landscapes, architectural forms, local materials, and cherished spaces that define the school's character. Following the tour they began the collaborative journey of visioning, engaging with students, user groups, and school leadership. Through dialogue and interaction, they gathered valuable insights and ideas, laying the foundation for the planning process. EAC is an independent, non-profit, co-educational day school in Campinas, Brazil, serving students ages 2 to 19.

The New Provincetown Police Department Situated on the corner of Route 6 and Shank Painter Road in Provincetown Massachusetts the new Police Station sits prominently on a small section of greenery creating a new gateway into the town. The clean and timeless geometry of the Cape Cod architecture with a centralized gabled roof, cedar shingles, and board and batten façade ties in well with the fabric of the Town. The Post and Board façade as well as the Galvanized Steel Piling facades complement the marine structures found throughout this seaside community. The abundance of natural light is created with the use of large modern windows and glass-framed gable ends to enhance the office environment within the associated workspaces. The glass-filled gable ends with double-height spaces are shaded by cedar wood battens to provide both shading and security from the site below. These gable ends incorporate LED color-changing lights that provide a community symbol for activities in town such as pride week and breast cancer awareness through an expression of light. Steel Structure Complete for New Student Center at Perkiomen School The erection of the steel for the New Student Center at the Perkiomen School is now complete. Located at the crossroads of several campus pathways, this 18,000-square-foot building offers various shared spaces for students to use and enhance their skills in a centralized public setting. The design is inspired by the traditional bank barns found throughout rural Pennsylvania, featuring four intersecting gables that form the atrium's complex geometry. Concrete is being poured this week, with the project set for completion in spring 2025. The new David Mindess Elementary School is located in a distinctly New England landscape, surrounded by rolling hills and near a historic main street. Nestled into a wooded hillside in Ashland, MA, the building's compact footprint creates unique outdoor nooks and gardens, providing direct access to the surrounding natural environment. Overlooking an expansive wetland, the site expands educational opportunities beyond the classroom. This LEED Silver-certified facility accommodates 635 students and 65 staff. The building features a high-performance envelope, geothermal wells, a hybrid heat pump system, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, rainwater management, and a low-maintenance landscape that further contributes to its sustainable design. Future renewables will allow the building to meet the town’s net zero energy goals.
