  • 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 The Cordova High School football team's success goes beyond athletic skill and strategic play—it's fueled by strong player connections and unwavering support from the Folsom Cordova Unified School District. As the team prepares for their home opener, it's evident that their achievements are rooted in the bonds formed both on and off the field, with a dedicated coach and District committed to their growth. Head coach JP Dolliver emphasizes that the path to success begins long before game day. “The time you put in that weight room in the spring really pays off in the fall. That separates really good programs from ones that are going to struggle,” JP Dolliver, Head Football Coach, Athletic Director said. The Folsom Cordova Unified School District has consistently recognized the importance of supporting the team. The District funds coaches' stipends, manages transportation and scheduling for athletic events, and ensures that all helmets and shoulder pads are certified and regularly purchases new helmets as needed. Facility upkeep has remained a priority, with ongoing renovations, including the complete overhaul of the PE coaches' offices, the Athletic Training room, the Athletic Director's office, and storage areas. “Whatever we need at a district level from equipment or any other type of resources. It’s very hands-on and everybody is really accessible too,” JP Dolliver, Head Football Coach, Athletic Director said. The District Director of Athletics, Peter Maroon, has worked with the Rancho Cordova Athletic Association (RCAA) since its founding in 2013, collaborates regularly with Rancho Cordova High School, Assistant Principal Cody Owens, and Athletic Director JP Dolliver to ensure that Cordova High School athletics continues to receive the necessary support, including coach recruitment, year after year. “CHS is a sleeping giant, waiting for the resurgence of the Big Red Pride. Today CHS has all the right people and support in place to perpetuate the Lancer Legacy. The school has the right administration, the right coaches, the outstanding facilities, the support of the district and community that any program would need to promote our students-athletes to excel,” Peter Maroon, FCUSD Director of Athletics said. The Cordova High School Lancers will face the El Camino Eagles in their season home opener on Friday, August 23. Junior Varsity kicks off at 5 p.m., followed by Varsity at 7 p.m. “I’m going to be a team leader out there and show El Camino who’s boss,” said Trey Wallace, the Quarterback. “We’re ready to play, have fun, hit hard, and be respectful,” added Orlando Gomez, Offensive Line Team Captain. The District is cheering on Cordova High School as well as Folsom High School Bulldogs and the Vista del Lago Eagles as all three high schools take to the field for their home openers on Friday, August 23.

  • 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐬𝐨𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐚 𝐔𝐒𝐃 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐤 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 Folsom Cordova USD celebrated the grand opening of Alder Creek Elementary School today in the Folsom Ranch neighborhood. The event, emceed by FCUSD Chief Communications Officer Angela Griffin Ankhelyi, welcomed leaders from city, county, and state governments, FCUSD educational leaders, community members, and dozens of new students who will be the first “Coyotes” to prowl the school's halls, classrooms, and playgrounds. Alder Creek Elementary School includes a modern 75,000-square-foot, two-story building designed to accommodate over 700 students from TK through 5th grade. The campus features state-of-the-art facilities, such as a sports field, multiple asphalt recreation areas, basketball courts, and open spaces for outdoor gatherings. FCUSD Superintendent Erik Swanson addressed the crowd and was joined by recently retired Superintendent Dr. Sarah Koligian and several other speakers who shared their excitement and support for the new school. Sara Parenzin, the principal of Alder Creek Elementary School, addressed the audience, inviting families to join the mission of educating and empowering students. She praised the school's design, which fosters collaboration, and highlighted the curriculum-based environmental graphics adorning the walls. She encouraged everyone to participate in the many upcoming school activities, emphasizing the importance of commitment to education. We extend special thanks to HMC Architects, Roebbelen Contracting, Inc., FCUSD Facilities Planning and Construction, Maintenance and Operations, and Educational Technology and Information Services departments for their hard work and collaboration in bringing this project to fruition. Their efforts highlight the importance of investing in education to benefit the community. Finally, thank you to our city partners City of Folsom and the families and students of our newest school. We are proud of our growing District and eagerly anticipate the first day of school on August 8.

  • 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐚 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥: 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐝, 𝐆𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐜𝐤 The Cordova High School Football Team has been rigorously conditioning and hitting the field in preparation for the upcoming season, while also strengthening their ties with the community through off-season volunteer work. “As far as being our first week back, they're holding each other accountable, they’re working and getting better each day,” Chris Tamez, Assistant Football Coach, Cordova High School said. Off the field, the Lancers have been giving back to the community this summer by volunteering at the Rancho Cordova Food Locker, where they package food for families in need. “Our guys went and volunteered over at the Rancho Cordova Food Locker and they liked it, they got that good feeling, so they’ve been going back every Friday over the summer,” Tamez said. One student-athlete shared his enthusiasm for community service. “I enjoy giving back to the community that supported me as I was growing up!” Tamez’s pride in his players' dedication extends beyond the football field. “Ability can get you to the top but character is what’s going to keep you there,” Tamez said. Football tryouts start today and will continue until Thursday, July 25, running daily from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐯𝐚 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐬 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 Summer break at FCUSD is an opportunity for students to engage in fun, unique, and enriching educational experiences. At Cordova Gardens Elementary School, the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELO-P) is in full swing, providing students with a blend of academic and extracurricular activities designed to foster growth and excitement for learning. “We have academics with certificated teachers who are here in the morning with the students. In the afternoon, we have vendors that come onto campus, offering cooking, music, studio art, basketball, soccer, there's always something going on,” Christina Williams, Associate, Expanded Learning Opportunities said. Guest instructors bring fresh perspectives and expertise, allowing students to take a break from their usual courses and dive into unique, hands-on learning experiences. The Music Science Group integrates music education with industry knowledge, offering students a holistic understanding of musical arts. “We are introducing students to musical arts, whether it be instrumentation or music production using digital systems. It’s critical because understanding music helps them in other areas. We want to create a holistic system that helps children,” Brandon Hairston, Instructor from Music Science Group explained. After exploring the world of music, students rotated to another exciting activity through a partnership with iCOOK After School. This cooking program teaches students to prepare delicious and nutritious recipes, emphasizing culinary skills, recipe reading, and nutritional value. The program also promotes cultural food awareness, celebrating diversity through cuisine. “We have a lot going on for the kids. It keeps us very busy and keeps the kids very active. They don’t have time to say, 'I’m bored' or 'I want to go home.' By the end of the day, they’re ready to go home, tired and fulfilled,” Williams added. California's Expanded Learning programs, like the ELO-P at Cordova Gardens, are crucial in providing year-round educational opportunities that prepare young people for college, career, and life. These programs offer hands-on, engaging, and student-centered learning experiences that address the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of students, complementing their regular school activities.
