Ending hunger by advancing best practices in hunger relief.
About us
Food Bank News is the first and only publication to acknowledge the critical role that food banks play in the health and well-being of millions of people living in the United States. We believe that hunger can and should be eliminated, and that better flow of information, ideas and best practices between members of the hunger-relief community will help reach that goal. Our mission is to create a community where those working in the charitable food system can gain access to news, information and resources to help them achieve the goal of eliminating hunger. By promoting conversation and information exchange about best practices in the charitable food banking system via an independent, national news source, Food Bank News aims to generate more effective and lasting solutions to hunger.

Big props to the state of New Jersey and Assemblyman Craig Coughlin for making NJ a leader among states by creating the New Jersey Office of the Food Security Advocate. "The biggest thing we have done is make food security a priority," Coughlin said today at the first annual OFSA conference. "Once it becomes a priority, then it gets the full force of government attention. And we're like a big rock. Once we start to roll down the hill -- it may be slow, it may bounce off course -- but it doesn't stop."

I talked about how Food Bank News got started and the FOUR things that surprised me once I started covering hunger relief. Many thanks to Dr. Phillip Knight and Gerry Brisson for inviting me on! When Dave Krepcho was the CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, he and his friends in food banking across the country would often reflect on the massive impact of the food banking movement over the years and the need to document it. “Somebody should write a book!” they said. That somebody turned out to be Krepcho, who turned to the project once he retired at the end of 2021, after 34 years in food banking. Check out our Q&A of Krepcho's inspiring and informative book here: https://lnkd.in/euphUVfU
