Our aluminum-powered industrial decarbonization technology is in the spotlight! Found Energy is featured in the Boston Globe. Read our story about our mission to decarbonize heavy industry with aluminum fuels. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZzHXHgR “The Found Energy system could replace fossil fuel with aluminum-generated hydrogen, a gas that burns at up to 4,000 degrees Fahrenheit, but produces no waste carbon. Instead of using barrels of oil, you truck in refined aluminum, which is safer and easier to transport than volatile fossil fuels and doesn’t release carbon and toxic gases. Feed the aluminum into a Found Energy reactor for heat and hydrogen, then send the aluminum oxide back to the smelter for ‘recharging.’ Dan Steingart, chair of the department of Earth and Environmental Engineering at Columbia University, said Found Energy is onto something. 'I’m a big fan of using metals to store energy, particularly something like aluminum,’ Steingart said. ‘Metals are easy to transport and they’re easy to store.’” Read on ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eZzHXHgR #FoundEnergy #aluminum #climatetech #cleanenergy #industrialdecarbonization Via Boston Globe Media and Hiawatha Bray

Building the future powered by aluminum
About us
Found Energy is building rechargeable aluminum fuel power systems aimed at eliminating carbon emissions from heavy industrial applications ranging from industrial heating (7% of global CO2 emissions) to maritime shipping (3% of global CO2 emissions). Building off technology developed at MIT that enables metallic aluminum to split water, our energy delivery systems safely generate hydrogen and/or industrial heat on-site at >5x the volumetric energy density of liquid hydrogen, >3x that of methanol and ammonia, and >25x that of Li-ion batteries. By integrating storage, transport, and generation into a single package, our technology solves some of the biggest pain points in renewable energy transmission and storage. At Found Energy, we believe in securing a livable and equitable future for our planet, and we are looking for partners who are motivated by this goal to join us.

Last weekend, I got the opportunity to represent Northeastern University at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) National Confernece held in San Diego as the student chapter President! This year, our chapter was awarded with the Outstanding Student Chapter Award which I was able to receive alongside Courtney Pfluger and Dom Pizzarella on behalf of our student chapter. Between last fall semester and this fall semester, the Northeastern AIChE student chapter has hosted one event a week ranging from professional development, networking, alumni events, company spotlights, socials, etc. I am excited to continue building our student chapter and see how it evolves by the next National Conference! I also got the opportunity to meet many of the other student chapter Presidents from the Northeast region as we sat down to discuss our respective chapters. We offered advice, talked of our experiences thus far, and discussed the regional conference in the spring. Amongst all the excitement of the conference, I sat down to listen to many technical sessions. Of the most notable was a talk on rheology by Clara Gomez and Tanja Tomkovic. I was able to take learning from their session and implement the ideas to my work at my Found Energy co-op! Overall, this was an amazing experience that I was glad to be a part of!

We’re excited to welcome a new cohort of Co-Ops from Northeastern University and Tufts University: Sebastian Kockler (Chemical Engineer), Maria Dariotis (Chemical Engineer), Mia Wasilewski (R&D Chemist), InJun Jeon (Mechanical Engineer), and William Randall (Software Engineer)! 🎉 From day one, they've jumped in and started making valuable contributions across a variety of projects. We're looking forward to seeing even more from them as they grow and learn with us! 👏 #aluminum #cleanenergy #industrialdecarbonization #growth #empowerment

Our CEO and Co-Founder, Peter Godart, had the honor of participating in a panel discussion at the prestigious Climate Beacon Conference in Boston last week! 🌍 The panel explored the critical role of innovative and scalable solutions in accelerating the energy transition, and also included Xuanhang (Simon) Zhang Zhang, CEO & Co-Founder at REON Technology; Scott Blanchet, COO at EVOLOH; and Enrique Bosch, Director of Innovation at Avangrid. A former NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory scientist, Peter shared his unique perspective on utilizing novel approaches for climate action. He highlighted the potential of aluminum as a high-density, clean fuel source, drawing inspiration from his experience with alternative energy storage mechanisms in space exploration. "That was a little nugget of the idea that turned into this approach of using aluminum as a fuel," he said. 🚀 Peter emphasized that aluminum holds 40 times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, making it a promising candidate for the future of clean energy. We'd like to express our gratitude to the Climate Beacon Conference for this incredible opportunity, and especially to The Engine Accelerator's Benjamin Downing for his insightful moderation. 🎙️ ”There’s several properties of aluminum that make it this really compelling fuel. One is the really amazing energy density it has. Coming from the battery world, we’re used to talking in watt hours per kilogram. For aluminum, we’re talking kilowatt hours per kilogram. So we’re talking 8.6 kWh per kilogram in terms of the energy that’s in aluminum, and it’s even better on a volume basis - 23 kWh per liter in terms of the thermal energy that’s available. And so it’s this rare carbon-free energy carrier that’s more energy dense than the fossil fuels.” 🎙️ Just one excerpt from CSO Ariel Jackson’s appearance on Cellmates by Lumicity, where Ariel sat down with Michael Norton and Leon Groves to talk everything from his career journey to the future of clean fuels. Some highlights: 💫 Ariel’s career journey, from working on a confidential cold-fusion project funded by Google, to being the full-time primary caregiver for his daughter, to becoming a subject matter expert in aluminum-water electrochemistry at Open Water Power 💫 How Ariel’s background in electrochemistry at Stanford University led him to see the possibilities of energy storage to combat climate change 💫 The challenges he saw in implementing aluminum-water technology at Open Water Power, and why Found Energy made him believe that aluminum was a viable commercial fuel Catch the episode to hear more. https://lnkd.in/erRGB_AJ #Leadership #ClimateTech #EnergyStorage #AluminumFuel
If you were to be drinking a Can of Corona and thinking about how to work on the Sustainable Energy Crisis, would the answer be closer than you think!? Thanks so much to all of the founders, investors and climate enthusiasts who joined the Collaborative Fund + Activate event this morning for NYC Climate Week! During our industrial transformation discussion, Craig Shapiro, asked the panelists: "If you had a magic wand ✨ - what does your company need most to succeed in the industrial transformation sector? Karen Baert [Ammobia] - "We need great engineers who have built commercial plants before; industry veterans and scrappy scientists alike." Liz Dennett, PhD [Endolith] - "We need the right commercial partner; one with incredible geology and a healthy dash of optimism." Peter Godart [Found Energy] - "We need a partner who's willing to take a risk installing our equipment and staking their profession on this risk." Special thanks to Priyanka Bakaya who joined from ARPA-E to give opening remarks, as well as our dear friend Calvin A. Cupini who moderated with such deft and enthusiasm.
