We work with local governments & communities to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change.

About us

FUSE is dedicated to freeing our country from the social and economic barriers to opportunities that have been perpetuated by a history of systemic and institutionalized racism. We partner with local governments and communities to more effectively address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals in local government agencies. These FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects that are designed to accelerate progress and advance racial equity. We are also dedicated to sharing the insights that emerge from our work to inspire all civic leaders to think and act differently in their efforts to achieve systemic change. Our work focuses on issues such as affordable housing and homelessness; workforce training and living-wage jobs; pandemic response and health equity; education reform and digital access; public safety and justice reform; climate resilience and green infrastructure; and more. FUSE has worked on over 250 projects in 42 cities and counties across 18 states serving a combined population of 25 million people. The majority of our alumni continue to work in civic leadership and nearly all our government partners return each year with requests for additional projects.

TRACE LANE is an interdisciplinary specialist in climate resilience, equity, and community engagement. Lane’s incredible expertise spans extreme heat resilience, wildfire preparedness, equitable water access, and energy equity across the U.S., Peru, and India. As the founder of The Story Lab, she bridges the gap between storytelling and science, making environmental changes understandable and actionable. As part of her FUSE Executive Fellowship, Lane supports the Extreme Heat Toolkit project in Los Angeles, tackling the urgent issue of urban heat islands exacerbated by climate change. This initiative, driven by StreetsLA Bureau of Street Services and FUSE, focuses on cooling strategies like trees, improved paving, and shade structures to address the disproportionate impacts on marginalized communities. #ExecutiveFellows #ClimateResilience #UrbanHeatSolutions #FUSExLosAngeles #LocalGovernment

Digital Health Advisor @ FDA | Tech-Enabled Strategy & Ops | Helping Businesses Make Data-Driven Decisions | ex: @Abbott;@Cerner;@Deloitte; Venture Capital; Public Sector @FUSE Corps

Employment decisions can be tough, but my choice to transition to public service was driven by a deep-rooted desire to make a positive impact. After my role as an Executive Advisor to the Mayor for Economic Development to the City of Cleveland - City Hall with FUSE, I found my passion for serving the public good unwavering. Despite the challenges, the opportunity to create meaningful change is immensely rewarding. If you share a similar commitment to driving positive change, consider joining us in our mission. #publicservice #positivechange #makeadifference

The Power of Community Engagement in Hard-to-Reach Communities Community engagement ensures all voices are heard, especially those from historically marginalized populations. With 25 years of experience, I've dedicated my career to connecting with these communities, building trust, and fostering meaningful relationships. A recent experience that highlights this is my e-bike survey distribution at StackFest, founded by the inspiring Rosaura Figueroa Mendoza. Rosaura brought StackFest, a vibrant celebration of local art, food, live music, and vendors, right into the heart of South Hayward, a historically underserved community. As an Executive Fellow in Hayward, I focus on identifying community partners, establishing key contacts for advocacy groups, and liaising with community members to ensure long-term buy-in for programs like CAP and active transportation initiatives. StackFest was the perfect platform to further these goals. In June, I tabled at StackFest to distribute an e-bike survey I created, as previous surveys had not engaged marginalized communities effectively. By being present, I ensured their voices were included in our data collection and decision-making processes. Key points about community engagement: Building Trust Takes Time and Effort: It's about being a constant presence and showing genuine investment in the community's well-being. Cultural Competence is Crucial: Respecting cultural nuances helps build rapport and trust. Innovative Approaches Make a Difference: Using events like StackFest leads to more effective interactions. Listening is Key: Feedback should be the foundation of any engagement strategy. Collaborative Efforts Amplify Impact: Working with local leaders enhances reach and impact. Community engagement is about building lasting relationships and ensuring every voice is heard and valued. Let's continue working towards inclusive and equitable communities, remembering the importance of genuine engagement and its incredible impact. Contact me for support in reaching your hard-to-reach communities and making a difference together. #CommunityEngagement #DiversityAndInclusion #Equitableoutreach #OutreachStrategies
