We work with local governments & communities to accelerate progress and inspire systemic change.

About us

FUSE is dedicated to freeing our country from the social and economic barriers to opportunities that have been perpetuated by a history of systemic and institutionalized racism. We partner with local governments and communities to more effectively address pressing challenges by placing experienced professionals in local government agencies. These FUSE Executive Fellows lead strategic projects that are designed to accelerate progress and advance racial equity. We are also dedicated to sharing the insights that emerge from our work to inspire all civic leaders to think and act differently in their efforts to achieve systemic change. Our work focuses on issues such as affordable housing and homelessness; workforce training and living-wage jobs; pandemic response and health equity; education reform and digital access; public safety and justice reform; climate resilience and green infrastructure; and more. FUSE has worked on over 250 projects in 42 cities and counties across 18 states serving a combined population of 25 million people. The majority of our alumni continue to work in civic leadership and nearly all our government partners return each year with requests for additional projects.

We love the real time updates from Fred Clay, MBA, PMP, ENV SP's work in the field as a FUSE Executive Fellow in the City of Hayward!

Reflecting on my journey as a FUSE Executive Fellow with the City of Hayward, I am proud of the strides we've made in promoting active transportation in historically marginalized communities. In May, I had the privilege of leading the City’s Bike to Wherever Day energizer station, where we engaged over 130 residents, surpassing the participation numbers of previous years. This success was not by chance—it was the result of combining three decades of experience serving hard-to-reach communities with the marketing strategies I honed during my MBA. Through this work, I've had the opportunity to build lasting relationships, like the one with Nick from AC Transit, as highlighted in our video. It’s always rewarding to hear that people enjoy working with us, reinforcing the value of collaboration and mutual respect. This experience underscores the vital importance of tailored outreach in achieving equity in community programs. The ability to engage and empower residents from all walks of life is crucial to building trust and fostering long-term participation in city initiatives. As I look ahead, I am more committed than ever to continuing this work, ensuring that our efforts in active transportation and sustainability are inclusive, effective, and genuinely beneficial to the communities that need them most. https://lnkd.in/g7FZpg_x #communityengagement #sustainabletransportation #inclusiveleadership #transportationequity

This funding will help us outline transportation goals, priorities, and strategies tailored to the unique needs of our community," Fred Clay, MBA, PMP, ENV SP announced. The grant is from the third round of the One Bay Area Grant program and will expand active transportation in historically underserved Equity Priority Communities. Clay has been actively engaging with residents at various community events, where he has been distributing e-bike surveys and promoting active transportation as a strategy for greenhouse gas reduction.
