🎃👻This Halloween, we’re fighting against a real-life ocean monster: krill fishing. The scary reality? Marine animals like whales are competing against industrial fishing for their main food source. As The Conversation US reported, the krill fishing industry is set to expand nearly 4X with a catch limit from 155,000 tons to 668,101 tons annually. Click the 🔗 to read more: https://lnkd.in/gfdGKiZt To also help shed light on this critical issue, we’re resharing our powerful video about the impact of krill fishing. #HappyHalloween #F3 #F3Meeting #KrillFishing

October is #NationalSeafoodMonth in the US, and while we could make many posts celebrating the future of seafood, we wanted to help put a spotlight on McFarland Springs Trout. The McFarland Springs Trout raise their fish on a 100% vegetarian, non-GMO diet, which saves over 7 million forage fish a year! 🌍🎣 We had the pleasure of tasting McFarland Springs Trout when TwoXSea catered our dinner at the F3 Meeting at the Domenico Winery. We enjoyed unique culinary dishes like the McFarland Springs Trout Dog 🌭🐟 and the trout carbonara 🐟🍝 Interested in exploring McFarland Springs, their products, and their operations? It’s exciting to hear that LanzaTech is expanding their biorefining platform capabilities to now produce commercial-scale nutritional protein directly from CO2 called LanzaTech Nutritional Protein (LNP). CEO of LanzaTech, Dr. Jennifer Holmgren says,” These facilities are expected to produce between 0.5 to 1.5 tons of LNP per day, and given the high protein content of LNP, 0.5 tons per day of LNP is roughly the equivalent of giving a typical complete daily intake of protein to approximately 9,000 people.” Impressive work by LanzaTech👏 To read more about this exciting news click here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g89F9kY6 #F3 #Protein

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a $10 million grant to the University of Maine Forest Bioproducts Research Institute (FBRI) and The Aquaculture Research Institute (ARI) to conduct research into making sustainable fish feed from wood. 🪵🐟 Alongside collaborating with the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS), and Arbiom, this project aims to convert the organic matter found in low-quality wood into fish feed proteins using Arbiom’s microbial fermentation process. 🐟 🍽️ To learn more about this research project, check out the Aquafeed.com article below👇 https://lnkd.in/e6r2QEWX #FutureofSeafood #F3 #Research #Grants

Did you know that a single adult whale can consume between 1 to 6 tons of krill a day? 🐋 Places like the Southern Ocean near Antarctica offer whales a place to eat their fill, but the krill fishing industry is proposing to increase the annual catch along the Antarctic Peninsula fourfold! This increase will see the annual catch of krill rise from 155,000 to 668,101 tons, with the majority of this catch being used for fishmeal and omega-3 dietary supplements. Supporting fish-free feed alternatives can ease the pressure on our oceans, helping to protect vital food sources for whales and other marine life.
