Last week, Germany's Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organizations in Geneva, Dr. Katharina Stasch, proudly signed the #GenevaPledge for Gender-Responsive Climate Action, that aims at advancing gender equality in climate efforts and sends a strong signal of support to #COP29 in Baku. As co-initiators of the pledge, we’re thrilled to announce that now already 70 decision makers and #IntGenderChampions have joinded in support! 👏
Over 40 Geneva-based leaders came together to sign the #GenevaPledge for Gender-Responsive Climate Action at the Palais des Nations. With so many enthusiastic signatories, the pen even ran out of ink! 🖊️✨ This powerful pledge, now backed by 60+ #INTGenderChampions and other leaders globally, aims at advancing gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in #climateaction worldwide. The pledge’s six Common Principles include: 1️⃣ Champion equitable representation 2️⃣ Advocate for gender-responsive climate finance 3️⃣ Integrate strategies to break down silos 4️⃣ Base decisions on gender-responsive analysis and data 5️⃣ Push for legal and institutional reforms 6️⃣ Promote a care perspective benefiting people and planet. With #COP29 on the horizon, the text calls for inclusive, collaborative solutions to address the unique challenges facing women, girls, and marginalized communities in the climate crisis. Thank you to the Impact Group co-chairs driving this initiative: Jagan Chapagain (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC), Ambassador Dr. Katharina Stasch (Germany in the UN), Ambassador Christian Guillermet Fernández (Costa Rica), and Elise Buckle (Climate Bridges). Many thanks also to Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of the UNFCCC and to Sofia Calltorp, Director of UN Women in Geneva for their remarks. A special thanks to today's MC, the wonderful Sarah Nanjala!
