On January 19th of this year we hosted the Inaugural “Sam’s Day of Stoke” at Arapahoe Basin Ski Area to stress the importance of getting outdoors to support everyone’s mental health. The support and attendance exceeded all expectations, and we were able to raise $10,000 for the Sam Aden Kindness Fund.    We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve granted a portion of those funds to support the production of Mountain in My Mind 3 - a feature-length ski film series about mental health in mountain communities. The film debuts the night of Sept. 13th right here in Denver!    Get your tickets, or see other screening dates and locations: https://lnkd.in/gNsn4-nm View the full trailer: https://lnkd.in/gsGi66i8

At GFM|CenterTable, we're proud to be part of the global PROI Worldwide network, collaborating with top public relations firms around the world. Jeremy Story -- a partner at the agency who leads our Crisis and Issues Management practice -- shared that our partners at SenateSHJ in Australia have recently conducted research on the impact of crises on publicly traded companies.   Though the geography may differ, the findings are strikingly relevant to us here in the U.S. Their report highlights the significant impact crises can have on share prices—especially in sectors like mining, retail, and travel—and underscores the importance of robust crisis communication strategies. In today's fast-paced, highly connected environment, protecting your organization's reputation has never been more critical.    We encourage you to dive into the full report and consider how these insights could apply to your own crisis management plans.

At GFM|CenterTable, we are fortunate to be part of the PROI Worldwide group of public relations firms, and our good friends at SenateSHJ in Australia recently researched and issued a report on the impact crises have on publicly traded companies down under. Many of the findings are relevant here because, aside from its water swirling the wrong way and it always being the wrong day there, Australia in many ways is an excellent analogue to the United States. The SenateSHJ report identified three critical findings: 1. 80% of companies that experienced a crisis saw their share prices fall. On average, those share prices fell 12% and (for those who did recover their initial share price) it took an average of 60 days. Some companies still have not recovered their initial share price. 2. The mining and materials sector experienced the highest average share price drop (21.9%) followed by retail (18.5%) and travel (17.5%). 3. Crises with casualties or fatalities experienced the highest average share price drop (24.4%) followed by crises that caused environmental damage (23.4%). Take a look at the full report. We live in an environment where everyone is mad about everything all the time, and the ability to organize and communicate via social media makes those underlying conditions even more threatening to your organization’s reputation. This report may give you the ammunition you need to, at the very least, convince your executives that it is time to revisit and potentially strengthen your crisis communication plan. Getting the (dream) team back together. 📸 🏔️ Had an amazing time presenting with my friend and former colleague Crystal Egli about social media in the outdoor and conservation space. It was rewarding connecting with communications pros who provide such meaningful work for the Colorado outdoors. A big thank you to Patt Dorsey, Elizabeth Dowling and the Rocky Mountain Restoration Initiative for organizing!

RIP, Twitter. Crisis Communications Professionals Miss You.    A new survey from Muck Rake shows that public relations professionals are increasingly turning away from X (née Twitter) in favor of more stable social media platforms such as LinkedIn. That is no surprise given that X has been a dumpster fire of misinformation for years and has recently seen exponentially more ... what's the right euphemism ... "adult" content? At this rate, it will only be a year or two before Elon Musk rebrands the social media platform again as XXX.    Watching X’s demise has been challenging for those of us who work with clients experiencing crises. There was no better barometer of how a crisis situation was trending than on X when it was Twitter. Unlike Facebook or Instagram, it was inherently open and easy to monitor. And the metrics it provided helped us make better decisions about how and when to respond.    It was not uncommon to have CEOs involved in an ongoing crisis eventually become frustrated and demand to increase the level of response. In some cases, X data showing that conversation about the situation was actually trending down quickly was instrumental to calming the CEOS down and keeping them from making rash decisions that would have only escalated the situations.    I’ve learned over my years in-house and at GFM|CenterTable that I lose 100% of the time when it is my gut against the CEO’s gut. But my data against a CEO’s gut … I prevail about 75% of the time. That’s lower than it should be, but it’s still better than 0%. RIP, Twitter.    - Jeremy Story is a partner at GFM|CenterTable who leads the firm's Crisis & Issues Management practice.

As a socially conscious marketing communications agency, giving back is embedded in our culture and our values. Since 2007, our Get Grounded Volunteer Program has provided team members with up to four hours per month of paid time for volunteering for nonprofits, schools or other 501(c)(3) organizations. In addition, GFM|CenterTable matches all volunteer hours by donating $10 per hour, up to $400 for each team member per calendar year, to the charities for which team members volunteer their time.
