Making biology easier to engineer.
About us
At Ginkgo, we use biology to grow the future. Companies across industries leverage our platform to design, develop, and optimize products for a breadth of commercial applications. We help our partners grow key ingredients for vaccines, crops that rely less on fossil fuel-based fertilizers, plant-based meat that tastes like the real thing, materials for the next generation of circular fashion, and so much more. We know our unique experiences, ideas, and perspectives are essential to our success and enable us to make biology easier to engineer and ensure equitable distribution of the benefits of our platform. As such, we seek to to grow an inclusive culture and diverse workforce. Let's make biology easier to engineer and join our team.

Facts: 1. Certain microbes can fix atmospheric nitrogen and avail that nitrogen in a form plants can use. This is how many plants get the nitrogen they need. 2. We can find, optimize and commercialize these microbes faster than ever before. Don't believe me? On April 10 in Orlando, FL, hear my colleague Cleiton De Sequeira at The Fertilizer Show speak to this using concrete case studies and data. #biologicals #nitrogen #nfix #synbio #agriculture #sustainability https://lnkd.in/dNe4XbU5

The fertilizer industry stands at a critical inflection point. As growers and regulators demand more sustainable and cost-effective solutions, synthetic biology offers a powerful pathway to innovation. On April 10 at The Fertilizer Show (https://lnkd.in/eHckTS9e), I'll dive into how biotechnology can help companies diversify their portfolios and address key industry challenges. We'll share concrete case studies on nitrogen-fixing microbes and fermentation-derived phytohormones, along with lead biological candidates ready for rapid commercialization. Interested in getting ahead of the biological innovation curve? Stop by our presentation and let's explore how synthetic biology can rewrite agricultural innovation. #TFS25 #syntheticbiology

I'm looking forward to sharing some lessons learned in making large-scale biofoundries at the upcoming American Chemical Society meeting in San Diego. My thanks to Zhao Huimin for the invitation to speak and to the ACS organizers for putting on the show!
Synthetic biology has revolutionized biotechnology and opened new opportunities in therapeutic development, disease diagnostics, biomanufacturing, and environmental bioremediation. One solution has emerged to enable the development of such processes, one that takes a collaborative approach – biofoundaries. The session, Emerging Frontiers in Synthetic Biology: Biofoundry, is being held at #ACSSpring2025. Leading experts and biofoundary directors will discuss this frontier in technology and how you as an individual researcher can have access to these tools. Come and enjoy coffee and food while engaging in this exciting session! Speakers: Jennifer Listgarten (Keynote), Lars Nielsen, Will Serber, and Nathan Hillson Panelist: Zhao Huimin, Mark Blenner, Michelle O'Malley, Natarajan Kannan, and Daeyeon Lee Learn more about the event here: https://lnkd.in/ecvkTxFE

Had the pleasure of learning about lab automation at NVIDIA GTC's healthcare and life science pavilion, catching up with Ginkgo Bioworks, Inc.' GM and VP Will Serber at NVIDIA's GTC to see their "LEGO-like" lab automation system in action. These Reconfigurable Automation Carts (RACs) are creating structured data for AI analysis while human scientists focus on bigger questions. Think of how AI is helping streamline coding. A similar trend could come to the lab where humans focus more on the overall structure of the task (here, an experiment). Oh, and the RACs can snap together similar to LEGOs. It is a bit slower than pressing two blocks together but not by much — only taking about 10 minutes.
