Last night, our 2024 Fellows celebrated their achievements and new friendships within our GCI community at the Celebratory Dinner, which included remarks from two Fellow representatives, our two Head TAs, and GCI's Founder and Chair Yumi Kuwana. The special speaker was John Primrose, Deputy Director - International Division, Scottish Parliament, who spoke to the power and purpose of international education. Over the past few days, the Fellows participated in Harkness® academic sessions and Glocal Service Project workshops. The 2024 GCI Fellows have arrived in St Andrews, Scotland! Following an exciting day of arrivals and getting to know one another, they started Day 2 by hearing from GCI's Founder and Chair Yumi Mera Kuwana as she shared her story and journey of creating GCI. After, the Fellows broke down barriers and built up trust through outdoor team building at the beach. Congratulations to Kenzo (2023 Fellow), who was selected as a recipient of this year's GCI Seed Funding Opportunity! GCI’s annual GSP Seed Funding Opportunity provides grants to GCI Fellows with a well-scoped and thoughtful plan to continue or expand their service projects that address real challenges in their local communities. Tackling the UN Sustainable Development Goals of Good Health & Well-being and Reduced Inequalities, Kenzo’s project, translated as “Heart Reading,” seeks to provide affordable mental health resources to low-income families in Japan. He is currently working on sharing access to book lists and professional wellness resources, including bilingual suicide prevention training, with Japanese school teachers so that they are better equipped to respond to the challenges young people face today. #Japan #SDG #serviceproject #mentalhealth

We are thrilled to announce the 2024 GCI Fellowship cohort, who will participate in this year's GCI Summit in St Andrews, Scotland! From July 20–28, 36 secondary school students from around the world will gather at the Summit to learn new frameworks for dialogue and problem-solving while building a global lifelong network of peers. They will also hear from international thought leaders and social entrepreneurs on the topics of emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, innovation, and the social good. During their time in Scotland, Fellows will envision local solutions to global issues through the development of their Glocal Service Projects. Upon returning home, and during the yearlong Fellowship program that follows, Fellows will collaborate with carefully matched mentors to further refine and implement their projects.
