We invest in bold ideas, helping grassroots organizations scale and deepen their impact to reach more children in need.

About us

Global Fund for Children partners to build a world where all children and youth enjoy equal resources and opportunities in society and live free from violence, discrimination, and exploitation. We do this by investing in innovative, grassroots organizations that provide children and youth with the resources to reach their full potential and advance their rights worldwide. In the fight for children’s rights, too many great ideas go unheard and unfunded. Global Fund for Children is here to change that. We discover grassroots organizations pursuing bold ideas, and provide the funding, coaching, and connections to give those ideas a chance to work. We take smart risks that others don’t, walking alongside our partners to help them develop and succeed, so that, together, we can build a future where all children and youth are safe, strong, and valued.

What an incredible time we had in Tbilisi, Georgia this July! 🎉 We hosted our second 3-day convening for the Europe and Eurasia Spark Fund (a youth-led fund) partners, and it was nothing short of inspiring. Our partners from Ukraine, Moldova, and Armenia joined us, and together, we reflected on the journey they've been on over the past two years. We also had networking activities and insightful sessions led by our partners. 🌟 Being in spaces like these reminds me of just how vital flexible, unrestricted funding is. It empowers young people to continue making the impact their communities need, and it’s so rewarding to witness firsthand. It’s been such a privilege to spend time with our partners and connect with them in person. Big shoutout to my amazing colleague Philee Ang-Chen for co-organising this with me! And of course, a massive thank you to Katherine Gilmour and Hayley Roffey for bringing their support and expertise to the convening! 🙏 Your contributions made this experience even more impactful 💜 Global Fund for Children

As a member of Global Fund for Children's global team based on the African continent, providing support to national, local, and community-based organizations, I have come to understand the crucial role that intermediaries such as Global Fund for Children play in offering essential support to these organizations. I have observed how challenging it can be for local organizations to meet the stringent requirements set by funders. Often, they become mere executors of projects for donors rather than achieving meaningful impact for their communities. While the concept of direct funding from donors is frequently promoted as an ideal solution, the reality can be quite frustrating for local organizations. They often struggle with the administrative burdens and complexities associated with securing and managing these funds. This frustration is compounded for funders, who may not be based on the ground and thus may not fully grasp the structural and cultural dynamics that can affect the effectiveness of their funding. These factors are not always easily understood by external funders, leading to additional challenges. Over the past four years, I have been delighted to witness the positive impact of our support on the growth of local and grassroots organizations. There is much that the Global South can learn from the Global North, and we must recognize the complementary role of intermediaries in facilitating this exchange of knowledge, skills, and resources. Collaborative efforts between these regions, supported by intermediaries, can foster sustainable development and empower local organizations to achieve greater impact. The blog written by Global Fund for Children Co-CEO John Hecklinger is particularly thought-provoking and worth reading for further insights into the added value of intermediaries. It offers a valuable perspective on how these organizations bridge gaps and enhance the effectiveness of development efforts. #globalfundforchildren #flexiblefundingworks

What would it look like to fund #feminist movements at the level that's needed, given the severity of today's crises? GFC's Co-Chair of Global Board of Directors, Swatee Deepak, is challenging funders to put forward a vision for #philanthropy to invest an additional $1.5 billion each year in feminist movements, totaling an additional $6 billion in the next four years. What do you think about this? Let us know in the comments! Read more here: https://bit.ly/3Wosohw

"To be able to change cultural, social, religious norms will take time and patience. Grassroots groups and movements need to be sustained over periods of time in order for that change to actually happen." Thanks, Swatee Deepak for always "Lighting the Way" to a more just, more effective, and more responsive practice of philanthropy that truly supports the complexity of social change.

GFC Board member and former #community-based parter, Marijana Savic, was named 2024 Trafficking in Persons Hero by U.S. Department of State. “When we are looking at #trafficking only as a criminal act, then we cannot help anyone. It is our job to also identify and prevent exploitative practices even if they are not recognized as trafficking. There are early warning signs and red flags, and as NGO Atina, we are supporting those victims to prevent trafficking from happening.” Read more here: https://bit.ly/3WoQdpl
