It’s time to #EndStigma in mental health Many people who live with mental health conditions find stigma and discrimination more challenging than the condition itself. Following on the recommendations of The Lancet Commission on ending stigma and discrimination in mental health, WHO Regional Office for Europe, King's College London and @Pan-European Mental Health Coalition developed the Mosaic toolkit to provide practical guidance on how to tackle stigma & discrimination Whether you are a policy-maker, mental health professional, NGO or young person, the Mosaic toolkit offers a clear step-by-step process to creating evidence-informed anti-stigma activities Ending stigma and discrimination in mental health starts with all of us, in every community https://bit.ly/whomosaic #MentalHealth #EndStigma Sue Baker OBE Steve Appleton Sean Russell MBE Úna Carney

#WorldMentalHealthDay is an opportunity to for everyone to come together in unity to talk and demonstrate that mental health matters. This year’s theme set by the WFMH World Federation for Mental Health is workplace mental health. The theme highlights the importance of addressing mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, for the benefit of people, organisations, and communities. There are many things that contribute to a mentally healthy workplace, from providing staff training on mental health to tackling discrimination and bullying. Importantly, a mentally healthy workplace supports open conversations about mental health. While talking about mental health in the workplace has become more common, many people still face stigma when it comes to severe mental health problems. On World Mental Health Day and beyond, check in with friends, family, peers, colleagues. Let's support each other every day and work together to reduce stigma in the workplace and beyond. #MentalHealth #EndStigma #WMHD2024

📰 Launched today at World Health Organization's Mental Health Forum The Lancet Psychiatry Commission was convened to identify the current mental health needs in Ukraine, and to outline a plan for a future, in which Ukrainians receive evidence-based care through a system that values human rights and lived experiences of people with mental illness. The Commission included five workgroups, each examining specific opportunities for change, development, and modernisation of the Ukrainian mental health-care system, along with requirements for success in clinical services, clinical training, research, forensics and legal advocacy, and finance. Workgroups built upon Ukraine's pre-war efforts to create a modern mental health-care system, while simultaneously looking at a 5–10-year horizon for bringing Ukrainian mental health care, training, research, and legal practices in line with international standards, which the country must meet in preparation for its expected European Union (EU) membership. 40 experts in mental health, health economics, law, science, and epidemiology, along with people with lived experience of mental illness, from 12 countries, joined to create this Commission. 📢 New global coalition endeavors to bridge the mental health funding gap within a generation African Venture Philanthropy Alliance (AVPA), Clinton Global Initiative, Kokoro , McKinsey Health Institute, and Wellcome Trust today announced the launch of the Coalition for Mental Health Investment (CMHI) — a global alliance of stakeholders committed to catalyzing the investment required to match the scale of global need. The global burden of mental disorders represents about 15 percent of the total disease burden — translating to 333 million lost years globally. Effective evidence-based treatments and approaches – including community-based models – already exist, and many promising new ones are in development. However, only 1-2 percent of global financing is directed toward mental health, contributing to an estimated $200 billion annual financing gap. Scaling these solutions for a mentally healthy society so that they reach those most in need will require sustainable, long-term financing. Rapidly increasing global awareness about the importance of mental health is an opportunity for cross-sector stakeholders to make mental health services more impactful, affordable, and accessible for all. As Global Advisor to the Coalition for Mental Health Investment (CMHI), GLE President and CEO Steve Appleton will work with others involved to focus on four strategic objectives: ➡ Connecting leaders across sectors with each other and with curated opportunities that help to accelerate its vision. ➡ Inspiring investment globally, including in low- and middle-income countries, by highlighting the business case and impact potential of investing in mental health. ➡ De-risking mental health investment by championing innovative financing approaches, including combining philanthropic and venture investment. ➡ Integrating mental health into existing funding in health and other sectors, such as education, humanitarian, and women and climate adaptation.
