We are pleased to announce that the Emergency Shelter at Grassroots is expanding, thanks to the tremendous support of our Howard County Executive Dr. Calvin Ball. Dr. Ball announced last week in his State of the County address the impactful investment of $1 million to Grassroots to expand capacity at the emergency shelter. This new investment will create 20 additional emergency shelter beds with the first phase of construction to be completed next month. Through our partnership, Grassroots will be able to provide residents with access to case management support and resources to put them on a path to stable housing. We are so excited to be able to expand our support of the community thanks to the support of Dr. Ball! Please continue to follow us for more details as we celebrate this amazing project! hashtag #howardcounty #howardcountymd #homeless #emergencyshelter #communitysupport #communityneeds #hungerandhomelessness #experiencinghomelessness

Thank you so much to Home Of Our Own, Howard for your generous donations to help make our children's playroom in our emergency shelter more fun and inviting. Betty and Dallas (pictured) brought us so many gifts, including two bookcases, two child-sized desks with chairs, a wooden toy chest, toy boxes and a ton of books and other toys. We are so appreciative to Home of Our Own who has been an amazing partner to Grassroots, also helping to decorate and set up new homes for residents who leave the shelter to move into stable housing. Thank you so much for your support! #emergencyshelter #crisissupport #communitysupport #communitygiving #hungerandhomelessness #weloveourdonors

We are so thankful to local artist Bonny Lundy, who visited our emergency shelter to help guide the children and adults during a relaxing and introspective arts session recently. She created a space where anything is possible and helped our guests sketch, paint or write in their own style. Her practice started with breathing meditation, before our artists choose their favorite colors. They painted any shapes that came to mind, as well as words connected to how they felt. Bonny paints emotional experiences through the color and movement of watercolor. She feels creating beauty in nature is the promise of happiness. Thank you so much to Bonny for showing our guests how beautiful life and art can be! #emergencyshelter #crisissupport #homelessness #thankful #experiencinghomelessness #artwithaheart #arttherapy #communitypartner #marylandart
