The American Diabetes Association Executive Breakfast was an inspiring step forward in our mission to end diabetes! Last night was one I’ll always remember. We had the honor of being invited by the NBA to attend the 2024 Power of Sports Gala hosted by The Institute for Sports and Social Justice. This event was a celebration of how sports can drive societal change, and we were proud to be part of it. The event highlights the dedication to leveraging sports for the betterment of our community. The gala was not just an evening of recognition but also an enriching experience where we connected with other advocates for sports and social justice. We are grateful to the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Institute for Sport and Social Justice (The Institute) for this memorable opportunity. Thank you for allowing Greater Orlando Sports Commission to represent Orlando in such an inspiring setting. Thank you to Erjaam Hayes - Leah Wilcox - Joe Lapchick - Jeffrey O’Brien for making it so special. Was always great to see our board members Latria Graham & Justin Kinsey so involved in the community.

The SPORTYS Awards presented by Orlando Health are a celebration of the impactful contributions made by the many sports business professionals who tirelessly work to enhance the sports landscape of Orlando. We are excited to take a moment to congratulate our exceptional colleagues: Gio Duarte, Aurusa Moosani (Kabani), Kelly Hyne, Jackson Metzger, MBA, Aaron Cranford, Monica Nieves, SHRM-CP, CPSP, Julie Baca, Deion McCarter, and Jarrod Dillon. Orlando Magazine recently released their list of Orlando's 50 most powerful people in 2024, and Valencia College President Kathleen Plinske placed once again as one of the most powerful people in education, joining Orange County Public Schools Superintendent Maria Vazquez and University of Central Florida President Alexander N. Cartwright. As Orlando Magazine states, "Under Plinske’s leadership, Spring 2024 represented Valencia’s highest-enrolled spring semester in the college’s history. Nearly 10,000 students completed an associate or bachelor’s degree from Valencia in 2023-2024."
