On the northern boundary of Greece, NY in Monroe County, you will find Edgemere Drive along the shoreline of Lake Ontario and the ponds flowing into it. The Edgemere Drive Bridge over the Long Pond Outlet Channel was built in 1953. GPI provided Monroe County Department of Transportation with design and construction management services to replace the deteriorating structure to provide a safe crossing with a 75+ year lifespan. The bridge now boasts modern concrete arches and is supported on concrete footings resting on steel piles reaching down to bedrock. Our design aimed to enhance navigational access for recreational use and protect imperiled freshwater mussels near the bridge. This week we celebrate National Health Care Facilities and Engineers Week! Today we look back on our project for Nathan Littauer Hospital, a network that provides emergency, surgical, primary, specialty, and skilled nursing care to 100,000 patients in a three-county area bordering the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York. GPI completed MEP and fire protection solutions for the 12,600 sq ft building, boosting energy sufficiency and improving air quality, while our Buildings team carefully advised on concept and building placement, including mapped areas of protected wetlands. Nathan Littauer Hospital now boasts mechanical equipment suited for the harsh winter weather, emergency power and lighting, nurse call systems, and more.
