A new study reveals an alarming increase in critical limb ischemia (CLI) cases among young adults in the U.S. CLI, a severe stage of peripheral arterial disease (PAD), reduces blood flow and can lead to amputation. Early detection can significantly improve outcomes. With continued research and proactive steps, a future where amputation is no longer common is possible. The study emphasizes the need to enhance surveillance and raise awareness of risk factors. By doing so, we can empower patients and help prevent issues before they become debilitating conditions. Important news to drive innovation in improving women's health! Facts about peripheral vascular disease (PVD) in women, according to THE SAGE GROUP: -PVD is one of the most prevalent female diseases, afflicting over 3X more women than breast cancer. -Five-year PVD mortality is 27% in females increasing to 60% for critical limb ischemia (CLI), the most severe form of PVD. This compares with 9% for breast cancer. -Women with PVD have a 2X to 4X increased risk of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity compared to women without PVD.

720 amputations will occur during Sunday’s Super Bowl…if every 20 seconds a diabetic amputation is performed somewhere in the world. Many of those amputations are related to poor circulation known as PAD, impacting 1 in 20 over age 50 and 3 in 5 heart attack sufferers.
