H-CAP is proud to advance Registered Apprenticeship programs in healthcare, which provide paid, on-the-job training and career development opportunities. #Apprenticeships enable workers to learn new skills and certify in a specialized, in-demand career without taking on student debt--especially important in the context of the strain that debt puts on healthcare workers. Recent research published in JAMA Health Forum shows that US healthcare workers are more likely than other workers to carry medical and educational debt, collectively owing more than $150 billion. Researchers found that educational and medical debts may limit workers’ professional mobility, reduce workforce diversity, and discourage personnel from entering lower-paying fields. By working together, labor and management partners can increase available apprenticeship opportunities to help keep workers out of debt in vital healthcare careers. #partnership https://lnkd.in/exx-t9dw

H-CAP is thrilled to share that our Registered Apprenticeship Program Manager, Joy Jamerson, MBA, will be a featured speaker at the upcoming 2024 Texas Association of Community Health Centers (TACHC) Conference. This prestigious event, taking place in Fort Worth, TX, is just a little over two months away. It will bring together healthcare professionals, administrators, and community health advocates to discuss pressing issues and innovative solutions in community health. Joy will lead a session titled "Building Tomorrow's Workforce: The Power of Registered Apprenticeship," which will focus on the pivotal role apprenticeship programs can play in addressing workforce challenges and enhancing the quality of care in community health centers. This week is Safe + Sound Week 2024! 🚧 🛑 Safe + Sound is an annual nationwide campaign by the U.S. Department of Labor held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America's workers safe. This year, the DOL is providing resources for employers to conduct a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). A JHA helps you identify and control unrecognized hazards and hazards that might emerge when there are changes, such as a new process or piece of equipment. Are there hazards in your healthcare environment that need to be addressed? The struggles of healthcare workers and early childhood education workers are linked: both workforces are highly occupationally segregated, undervalued and underpaid, yet are vital to the health and vibrancy of our communities and economy. 💜 When early childhood educators are given the support they need to succeed at work, our families, our economy, and society benefit. But like many frontline workers, early childhood educators face low pay and economic and educational barriers. We were pleased to read the latest report from the Georgetown Center on Poverty & Inequality and The Institute for College Access & Success, which explores these challenges and offers policy implications that advance racial and economic equity. New data from the National Partnership for Women & Families shows that Americans’ unpaid caregiving is worth more than $1 trillion annually–and women are doing two-thirds of the work. While unpaid care is often done with love, it is labor nevertheless–labor critical to the functioning of our families, neighborhoods, and our economy. Yet despite its importance, U.S. policies have historically undervalued and under-supported care work, failing to provide paid leave, affordable child care, and home and community-based services. Did you know that the home care industry is projected to grow by almost 1 million jobs between 2021 and 2031, an increase of 35%?! 📈 Providing home care services is essential work that supports the ability of millions of older adults and people with disabilities to live in the community. Why does healthcare workforce #data matter? ➡️ In simple terms, we can't change what we don't measure! Workforce data collection on healthcare workers' experiences and challenges getting and keeping #goodjobs just hasn't kept up with the "care crisis"--aka the demand for trained healthcare workers outpacing recruitment & retention in caregiving jobs. We need to hear directly from healthcare workers about their experiences, needs, hopes and dreams to be able to create effective, equitable workforce development solutions. 🗣️🗣️🗣️ 💡 That's why H-CAP's Center for Equity initiative is intentionally focusing on putting #dataequity theory into practice by hearing from workers and workforce development practitioners about what needs to be done on the ground to enact real change.
