Great piece by Ali Bustamante of Roosevelt Institute and the Good Jobs Collaborative on why taxpayers should not subsidize employers who violate labor laws. The bipartisan #WIOA draft bill developed by the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, & Pensions includes a provision requiring employers seeking training subsidies to respect labor laws - and business lobbying groups are pushing to have it removed. That would be a mistake. If we want our federal workforce development system to really lift up working people, it cannot support employers who don't respect worker rights.. As it stands, the United States’ workforce development framework fails to provide the accountability that ensures workers have access to good jobs and economic mobility.
