This week is #NationalAssistedLivingWeek! Hundreds of thousands of caregivers and assisted living facility workers around the country support older adults and people with disabilities residing in assisted living communities each and every day. 💜 But workers in this important sector face considerable challenges. ⭕ Many assisted living workers remain under-compensated for their essential work, with median annual earnings of just over $28,000. ⭕ Caregivers working in the assisted living sector are disproportionately Black, Latina and Asian women, and immigrants compared to the workforce at large. ⭕ Workers often lack access to quality training and opportunities for career advancement. 💫 💫 Assisted living workers deserve quality jobs: pass it on! 💫💫

🆘 Did you know that 87% of occupations in the U.S. are racially segregated? According to the National Employment Law Project, workers of color are often limited to the lowest-paid, least stable, and most dangerous jobs. 🏥 Direct care is one of the most occupationally segregated sectors, with BIPOC women overconcentrated in low-paying frontline healthcare jobs. 💡 H-CAP's Center for Equity initiative is working to raise the floor in healthcare so that every healthcare job can be a good job with opportunities to advance in a family-sustaining career. H-CAP is proud to advance Registered Apprenticeship programs in healthcare, which provide paid, on-the-job training and career development opportunities. #Apprenticeships enable workers to learn new skills and certify in a specialized, in-demand career without taking on student debt--especially important in the context of the strain that debt puts on healthcare workers. Recent research published in JAMA Health Forum shows that US healthcare workers are more likely than other workers to carry medical and educational debt, collectively owing more than $150 billion. Researchers found that educational and medical debts may limit workers’ professional mobility, reduce workforce diversity, and discourage personnel from entering lower-paying fields. By working together, labor and management partners can increase available apprenticeship opportunities to help keep workers out of debt in vital healthcare careers. #partnership https://lnkd.in/exx-t9dw

This week is Safe + Sound Week 2024! 🚧 🛑 Safe + Sound is an annual nationwide campaign by the U.S. Department of Labor held each August that recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs and offers information and ideas on how to keep America's workers safe. This year, the DOL is providing resources for employers to conduct a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA). A JHA helps you identify and control unrecognized hazards and hazards that might emerge when there are changes, such as a new process or piece of equipment. Are there hazards in your healthcare environment that need to be addressed? Talk to workers about their experiences on the job and make the necessary changes to be #SafeAndSoundAtWork! https://lnkd.in/efctkPiQ
