On August 8, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC) released a mid-season Atlantic Hurricane Season Outlook update. In this update, NOAA forecasters increased their initial prediction of an 85 percent chance of an above-normal hurricane season to a 90 percent chance. This is about one million acres above the 10-year average number of acres burned, according to the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC).
