About us
Inspired by the deep meaning and joy offered by Jewish living, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (The HGF) helps people connect to Jewish values, faith, traditions, and culture, and build vibrant Jewish communities. The HGF has several flagship programs including PJ Library, JCamp 180, Life & Legacy, Voices & Visions, and Western Mass Grants. HGF flagship initiatives focus on Jewish outreach: • PJ Library® shares Jewish culture and values through children’s books that reflect the diversity of Jewish customs and practice. This global program is made possible by thousands of generous supporters, local program partners, the PJ Library Alliance, and the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. To learn more about the program and ways to connect to local activities, visit pjlibrary.org. • PJ Library's sister program in Israel, Sifriyat Pijama, is currently serving more than 400,000 children in schools throughout Israel in partnership with the Ministry of Education. • The Voices & Visions program elicits the power of art to communicate great Jewish ideas. The project aims to inspire Jewish conversation, instill pride, and spark creativity among diverse audiences and ages • JCamp180 works to strengthen the infrastructure of Jewish camps throughout North America by providing mentor services in strategic planning, board development, fundraising, and technology • The Life & Legacy program offers an incentivized path to help communities secure meaningful after-lifetime legacy gifts for the future of their Jewish communal organizations • The Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation (HGCF) provides philanthropic support primarily in Western Massachusetts. Programs include the Entrepreneurship Initiative, Local Farmer Awards, Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching Awards, and ener-G-save.

JCamp 180 was proud to co-sponsor the Jewish Day Camp Network Day Camp Conference this week. Thank you to JCC Rockland for hosting and to our camp partners for sharing their experience and knowledge. We were inspired by the impact staff and lay leaders of Jewish day camps are making across North America!

PJ Library aims to represent the diversity of North American Jewish communities through the books that go to families. As part of that mission, the multi-year Sephardic Stories Initiative (in conjunction with the Samis Foundation) invited published authors of Sephardic and Mizrahi backgrounds to create stories inspired by their own experiences. The goal is to elevate the types of Jewish stories told to include the Sephardic and Mizrahi communities, cultures, and traditions. This year's participants recently met for a retreat in New York City, and it was a full weekend of learning, collaboration, and creativity. Applications for year two of the Sephardic Stories Initiative fellowship are open through November 1, 2024: https://lnkd.in/gc_MXtrd

We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of author Amalia Hoffman, z"l (zikhronah livrakha, may her memory be a blessing), pictured here (center, front) at a PJ Library event in New York last year. Many of our PJ Library colleagues worked closely with Amalia to produce several beautiful board books, including First Fruits, published by PJ Publishing last month. We are proud to have shared Amalia’s work with tens of thousands of Jewish children around the world. She will be remembered for her kindness, her infinite creativity, and her charming sense of humor. Our hearts go out to Amalia's family and friends.
