Climate solutions are preventive healthcare, says Dr. Gaurab Basu at The New York Times' #ClimateWeekNYC event. It was an honor to speak at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting today, where leaders came together to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges. At Americares, we help communities around the world prepare for, respond to and recover from disasters—and today, one of the biggest emergencies impacting health around the world is the climate crisis, which demands innovative, proactive solutions.    That is why I am proud Americares is working in collaboration with Harvard C-CHANGE to adapt and expand use of our Climate Resilience for Frontline Clinics Toolkit globally.     Two years ago, we made our Commitment to Action and today I am happy to report that, through the generous support of Johnson & Johnson we are supporting a locally-led adaptation of the toolkit in the Philippines, which will be piloted in time for peak heat season. And this is just the beginning. We hope to expand this vital work to several more countries in the future.     The science is clear: extreme weather events—such as heat waves, wildfires, hurricanes, floods and other climate emergencies—pose serious threats to health, particularly for vulnerable populations. As we face an increase in environmental challenges, our toolkit provides essential resources to help providers support patients navigating these risks and protect their health.    We know that tackling complex challenges like the climate crisis requires collective action, and it has been so inspiring to see that these efforts are working. We are already making a tangible difference in the lives of communities affected by these challenges. And as we look to the future, I am excited about the opportunities to expand our impact and strengthen our commitment to building a healthier, more resilient world together.    #GlobalHealth #CGI2024

A new JAMA Open Network study found that heat-related deaths may triple this century. "For years, we have been chronically underestimating the number of heat-related deaths … because they are so complicated," Our director of education and policy, Gaurab Basu, told ABC News.
