Free and charitable clinics play a critical role in the U.S. healthcare system, providing essential medical services to millions of low-income, uninsured, and underinsured individuals. Through Roadmap to Health Equity, an initiative founded by #Americares and the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) Clinics, care is revolutionized for millions of Americans who rely on these institutions. Cat Hulburt, Ashley M. Edwards, and Madison Bates of our US Programs Team recently shared insights about the initiative and how we are breaking down barriers to equitable care. Established in 1979, we are a health-focused humanitarian organization dedicated to responding to people affected by poverty, disaster, and inequity with life-changing health programs, medicine, and supplies. Our mission is to help people and communities access health in times of disaster and every day. We envision pathways to health and opportunity for all, driven by our commitment to sustainable solutions and treating people as they want to be treated. To date, we have provided over $20 billion in aid to 164 countries, including the US. We distribute over $900 million in medicine and supplies to 90 countries each year. Over the next five years, we aim to help 100 million people gain access to quality healthcare. Let’s make health happen for everyone, everywhere.

Climate change’s effects go beyond just extreme heat and intense flooding. It can also affect our mental health. Increased stress, anxiety, and trauma caused by extreme weather events is common within communities as they recover. Americares works to help local health professionals mitigate these effects through mental health training In February, the #Americares Puerto Rico team visited Honduras to support mental health training efforts, focusing on Psychological First Aid (PFA). Participants learned about the mental health impacts of climate change and strategies to mitigate these effects at an individual, community, and societal level. The training also emphasized self-care for PFA providers, who often support others while recovering themselves. Learn more about our mental health work here: https://lnkd.in/eZD8iiHk

This #WorldHumanitarianDay, our staff and volunteers around the world stand in solidarity with the rest of the humanitarian aid community to spotlight the toll armed conflicts take on our colleagues, civilians and children. Attacks that kill or injure civilians, including humanitarian and health care personnel, are devastatingly common. Today, we appeal to all States, parties to armed conflict and the wider international community to end attacks on civilians and protect all aid workers. Read the open letter to the member states of the United Nations General Assembly, signed by #Americares and 412 other humanitarian organizations. #ActForHumanity https://lnkd.in/ejUx92qp

Partnering with other organizations allows us to enhance the impact and reach of health initiatives, particularly in underserved and remote areas. With the #Americares Medical Outreach Program, we donate products to partners that embark on different emergency response trips around the world ensuring that healthcare services are accessible to those who need them most. In the past year, 16 partners embarked on 17 emergency response trips In 2024 alone, Americares supported 665 teams with $54 million in aid, reaching 72 countries. With tropical storm Ernesto continuing to travel through the Atlantic, areas of Puerto Rico, eastern Hispaniola and parts of the Leeward Islands will continue to feel the effects of the storm throughout Wednesday. Americares Puerto Rico Country Director, Eric Jovan Pérez López, MPH, joined FOX Weather to discuss how we're helping communities respond and recover by reaching out to local partners operating 40 health centers within Puerto Rico to offer assistance. #Americares https://lnkd.in/dghbD3-R

In #Gaza, communities are facing unspeakable challenges. As time has passed, the extreme heat in the region has only made things that much more difficult to provide aid to those most in need. With many living in tents and no access to cool spaces or clean water, heat in itself has become a public health crisis. As #Americares works to provide medicines and medical supplies, we along with other aid agencies must adapt our own approach to ensure the aid being delivered is not affected by these scorching temperatures as it travels to its destination. https://lnkd.in/eikHrzq9
