To understand important immigration policy debates, we all need to have a basic understanding of the vocabulary of immigration. Language is important, both in advocating for effective policy change and amplifying the experiences of survivors. Here are 15 key immigration terms you should know: https://lnkd.in/eBZ5E8ZX

Partnerships are integral to HEAL's mission. Today we are spotlighting Asylee Women Enterprise, the "A" in HEAL! AWE is one of HEAL's four #partner institutions that contributes to HEAL's presence as an innovative and interprofessional center of excellence in the area of #refugeehealth and #asylummedicine in Maryland. AWE supports asylum seekers, foreign-born trafficking survivors, and other forced migrants as they navigate the immigration legal process, heal from past trauma, and rebuild their lives in Maryland. Over the last decade, AWE has served thousands of vulnerable immigrants from across the world and distributed over four million dollars in financial and material assistance. AWE provides trauma-informed, comprehensive case management services to help asylum seekers and other forced migrants access the resources and support they need to be safe, stable, and self-sufficient. There is a common Spanish saying that’s come to mind lately - “el pueblo unido jamás será vencido”. It reminds us that when we are united, we will not be defeated. The Biden administration just announced the most restrictive asylum ban by any Democratic president. It bans #survivors from accessing their legal right to #asylum and it will go into effect immediately. This means that for real people with stories like the ones I regularly post about on LinkedIn - women fleeing intimate partner violence, young girls escaping overpowering gangs, human rights advocates and doctors fleeing for protecting others’ rights - the U.S. will turn them away and will not give them a chance to find safety. At a time when violence against women and girls is at an all time high, the richest country in the world is shutting its doors to them. But we at Tahirih Justice Center will keep our doors open for any immigrant woman or girl seeking #immigrationjustice. We will stand united with our amazing allies in this work, and we will continue to fight for asylum to not be defeated. Pictured here with some of those great allies from the HEAL Refugee Health and Asylum Collaborative who help us fight for justice for asylum seekers at immigration court!
