This week's #HeightsHighlight is first-year collegian Dymir Evans! Dymir is a 2024 graduate of Carver E&S High School and started at Temple University this fall, studying Computer Science. "When I first arrived at Carver E&S, COVID made the transition from middle to high school difficult. Whenever I opened my laptop to go to class, I was surrounded by distractions and couldn't focus on the work in front of me. Because of this, I couldn't keep up with my classmates, and I ended up with a low GPA by the end of my first year. So, when my sophomore year came around, I reached out to my Heights Advisor for the first time, and I received help fixing my time management issues and learned how to study properly." Dymir credits his Heights Advisor, Kris Robinson, with helping Him find internship opportunities and being a huge help throughout the college application process. We look forward to seeing all the fantastic things Dymir will do at Temple! #ReachNewHeights #HeightsPhilly #HeightsStudents #Classof2024 #TempleUniversity

This summer, 1096 students participated in Heights programming across the city. During the Middle Grades Summer Program Closing, Teresa Tham, Associate Director of Middle Grades, said to a full auditorium of students, family members, and staff: “Our summer intention was clear: to transition students successfully through to the next level. Not only the next level in their education, but leveling up to meet new Heights, with our dedicated staff and the passion to see a better Philly. This summer we filled the cups of students by pouring into them encouragement, hope, education, and love.” This effort would not have been possible without our staff’s unwavering commitment to our students! As we wrap up summer and celebrate new beginnings for our students and the Heights community, we invite you to read our Summer 2024 recap newsletter: https://lnkd.in/dgFUnead #ReachNewHeights #HeightsPhilly #HeightsStudents #HeightsCommunity #Summer2024

The Ellis Trust for Girls is offering their annual $400 Back to School Award to female-identifying students in public/charter high schools across Philadelphia! Enrichment Grants are also awarded throughout the year to cover a range of high-impact enrichment programs and basic school needs. Last Friday we held our 2nd annual Heights Night at the Philadelphia Phillies game, and had over 100 alums in attendance! It was the perfect night to connect and cheer, especially when the Phillies won. Many thanks to all of the alum, staff, and families that were there. Your support is what makes our work possible. A very special shoutout to Liz, Associate Director of Alumni and Volunteer Engagement, for organizing another memorable evening that brought the Heights community together! If you are an alum, please connect with our Heights Alumni Group: https://lnkd.in/ef-iBEXq #HeightsAlums #Phillies #ReachNewHeights #HeightsNight

This week's #HeightsHighlight is Dominique Bristow, a rising senior at Roxborough High School! Dominique first got involved with Heights during her 9th-grade year when she wandered into the classroom where two Heights coordinators happened to be working. The rest is history. Dominque is an active member of the Heights Student Advisory Board (SAB), where she spends time at the Heights office once a month with her peers, engaging in professional development and supporting various Heights initiatives. When asked how Heights services have impacted you, Dominique shared, "Heights as a whole is one of the reasons I'm making great connections, going to different college grounds for trips, understanding what kind of college or university I'd feel comfortable going to, and has given me multiple opportunities to join summer programs courses for computer science and coding at Penn! To put it blankly, I've had an amazing amount of help from this organization alone". Dominique also expressed gratitude to her coordinator, Mr. Roosevelt, who provides ongoing academic and enrichment support. "If it weren't for my coordinator, Mr.Roosevelt, I wouldn't have known about SAB at all!" We are so proud of Dominique and can't wait to watch her shine throughout her senior year at Roxborough! #ReachNewHeights #HeightsPhilly #HeightsStudents
