We are thrilled to announce Shoemaker Campus has been named a "Beat the Odds" school and is being awarded a $40,000 planning grant from Elevate 215. The school was specifically recognized for it's intentional and effective efforts to prepare students for success after graduation. Additionally, the grant will help the school in its pursuit of the Mastery mission to provide all students with the personal and academic skills they need to pursue their dreams and succeed. 📢 Announcement: Elevate 215 Awards $160K in Planning Grants to 4 District and Charter High Schools The School District of Philadelphia's Building 21 Philadelphia, Imhotep Institute Charter High School, Mastery Schools Shoemaker, and Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School are recognized for “beating the odds” (BTO) by producing graduates who are thriving after high school. Stacy Holland, Executive Director of Elevate 215 stated: “These high schools have developed intentional and effective models that utilize innovative practices to prepare their students for post-secondary success. Our goal is to collaborate with the schools over the next few months to create action plans that will further accelerate student growth and ensure long-term success.” The selected high schools were identified through data analysis based on specific demographic, income and performance criteria. Engaging with Families at the Back-to-School Bus Tour! 🚍 This week, we had the pleasure of connecting with families during The School District of Philadelphia's Back-to-School Bus Tour at George Washington High School. Despite the summer heat, we were committed to providing families with the information they need to explore their school options and secure their free tickets for the upcoming 2024 K-12 Philly School Fair on September 27 & 28. Our new partnership with Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies, is creating unique opportunities for Hardy Williams High School students to receive hands-on health care training. Starting in September 2025, the initiative will prepare students to fill in-demand health care jobs directly after graduation. Rising ninth-grade summer bridge program students from Hardy Williams High recently visited CHOP’s Philadelphia hospital and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute to learn more about the organization’s mission to improve health care for children. Through demonstrations of biomedical tools, learning about careers in research, engineering, language services, and clinical patient-facing care, and tours of labs, our students had a wonderful experience that ignited their interests in STEM and future career opportunities at CHOP. We are grateful to CHOP leaders and staff for guiding students on this interactive and highly engaging day of learning. High school and college aged young people: The Center is looking for high school and college students to serve on its first ever Youth Advisory Council (YAC), which will serve as a conduit between students and the organization’s staff to help enhance learning experiences that will augment CBED's programming, community impact, and overall brand. You'll get to learn what it’s like to serve on an advisory council for a nonprofit while developing their leadership, creativity, and team-building skills.
