The work we do at Helion really comes down to two things: the people and the hardware. I shared my thoughts on what it’s like to work at their intersection - where execution, speed, and ownership drive everything we do. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gfndBXXW

Our multi-channel interferometer uses 1550 nm laser light to measure electron density with extreme precision. The setup splits light into two paths—one passing through plasma and one along a reference path. Relative to the light in the reference path, light going through plasma arrives at the detector with a phase difference proportional to the plasma’s electron density. Dense wavelength division multiplexing enables us to increase our channel count while reducing the number of common components. This compact, high-performance system will fully diagnose our plasma’s electron density at every stage of FRC formation, acceleration, and compression.

In Helion’s fuel processing lab Here, we house fuel loading, gas processing, and analytical operations for Polaris. As fusion occurs, fusion byproducts will be captured at the end of the machine and travel through fluid lines into secure containers, that will be transported to and processed in the lab.

Fusion creates neutrons, which are effectively managed through the use of shielding. Shielding limits and controls the effects of neutrons to keep radiation exposure from the fusion process as low as reasonably achievable. I share more on shielding, including how it works, here: https://lnkd.in/gQVzUQtD

With International Women’s Day tomorrow, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible women I’ve had the chance to learn from throughout my career. Their drive, expertise, and commitment to lifting each other up continue to impress me. At Helion, I get to work alongside some of the most talented women from the most diverse backgrounds I’ve encountered in my career, all focused on bringing fusion energy to the world. It’s inspiring to see them leading work that will transform our planet. I’m also proud to be a leadership sponsor for our Women’s ERG and look forward to seeing it grow and thrive in the years ahead. Grateful to be on this journey with the women of Helion.

Polaris’ 50 MJ capacitor bank. Our energy bank is comprised of thousands of pulsed power units that each contain capacitors, diagnostics, safety mechanisms, advanced semiconductors, and more – everything that’s needed to monitor the electrical health of Helion’s fusion machines. These units are rigorously built as they move through the assembly line, tested at Polaris’ operating voltages, and sent here to Ursa, for final integration.
