About us
Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute (HHRI) has been actively investigating the causes of and potential treatments for diseases since it was founded as Minneapolis Medical Research Foundation (MMRF) in 1952. We support and oversee the medical research conducted at HCMC, Hennepin Healthcare's nationally recognized Level I Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center and acute care research and teaching hospital located in downtown Minneapolis. HHRI is one of the largest medical research non-profits in Minnesota. Our researchers are experts in their fields. They conduct basic, translational, clinical and epidemiologic research with a focus on four areas: Acute Care/Trauma, Addiction, Health Services and Infectious Diseases (HIV/AIDS). In an environment that emphasizes patient care, research and teaching, HHRI is at the forefront of discovering solutions to some of the most complex medical problems. The work of our investigators is advancing medicine, guided by our mission of improving patient care and the health of our community through research and education.

Former president of the MN EHR Consortium, Tyler Winkelman, MD, MSc, was recently interviewed by the University of Minnesota's student newspaper, The Minnesota Daily (MN Daily), about a recent telehealth study from the Minnesota Department of Health. "The study found that #telehealth expands access to care easier and faster without increasing healthcare costs. Additionally, the study found that most Minnesotans are satisfied with telehealth care and telehealth only fell short when technical issues occurred." You can read all about it here:

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, National Hispanic Heritage Month is from September 15 to October 15. In honor of this, we want to amplify Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute employee, Health Homelessness, and Criminal Justice Lab member, Moncies Franco Sr. as he discusses why criminal justice reform is such a personal cause for him. #hhri #criminaljusticereform #hhcj
📈 1 in 4 Americans will be LatinX by 2060 according to the U.S. Census Bureau, meaning our need for criminal justice reform in a system predominantly incarcerating Black and Brown Americans will only become more necessary. Let's honor the vibrant Hispanic and LatinX Heritage community by uplifting voices like Moncies Franco Sr. , a third-generation incarcerated adult and Dream Justice 2024 Cohort Alum who now uses his life experience to advocate for criminal justice reform that saves and protects lives in his community, and in so many others. 🫱🏽🫲🏿🫱🏿🫲🏼
