A huge thank you to Cargill for bringing a Doing Good event to their Wayzata campus. Cargill team members bundled socks, wipes and band-aids in a bag for easy distribution by our community paramedics or frontline teams. We are so thankful for all who participated and generously donating their time and resources. John Yick, PharmD – Pharmacy Supervisor, North Loop Pharmacy “I previously worked at a chain pharmacy, and it was emotionally difficult to turn people away when they couldn’t afford co-pays. We had nothing to help them. But here, we don’t ever turn anyone away. I like that we’re dedicated to serving the community, focusing on inclusivity and accessibility. We have so many programs to help patients get care and medications. We received a card and flowers from a patient thanking us for being there for her during a difficult time. She was experiencing homelessness, but now she’s happy and healthy and thanked us for being a part of that journey. I didn’t even realize she was navigating that, so it’s a good reminder to treat everyone with kindness because we don’t know what someone is going through.” Hennepin Healthcare Foundation is proud to highlight authentic stories from the wide variety of human beings who connect with our mission. Dr. Thomas Wyatt says more than 60% of patients in his emergency department at Hennepin Healthcare depend on Medicaid. He says major Medicaid cuts would have a devastating impact on their care -- as well as all other Minnesota patients that depend on HCMC for backup, or for specialty or higher-level care. Medicaid cuts will fall on more than just Medicaid recipients, Wyatt said at a press conference in Minneapolis.

U.S. Rep. Kelly Morrison (D-MN 3) isn't just a member of Congress, she's a physician. She joined officials and fellow doctors at Hennepin Healthcare this morning to warn that major cuts being considered for Medicaid could have impacts all over Minnesota, even for patients who are not Medicaid beneficiaries. Morrison vowed to oppose the cuts in Washington, and noted that even some Republican Minnesota legislators have publicly expressed their opposition to Medicaid cuts.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month and today we’re raising awareness about early detection through screening. Colon cancer is increasing in younger people, and sometimes has symptoms such as bleeding, change in bowels, pain, but other times has none. Recommended screening starts at age 45 but talk to your provider if you are experiencing symptoms or want to know your screening options 💙
