With its partners, Shamba Centre for Food & Climate, Juno Evidence Alliance and FAO, Hesat2030 is developing a comprehensive assessment and economic modelling of nutrition-sensitive interventions to determine the additional public investment needed to achieve food and nutrition security in the most vulnerable populations by 2030, and within the limits set by the Paris climate agreement. The Hesat2030 assessment aims to: ⏩ Provide a comprehensive analysis and costing of the most effective nutrition sensitive interventions in agrifood systems that improve diets and nutrition. ⏩ Advance the understanding of the linkages between multiple nutrition sensitive interventions in order to maximise impact. ⏩ Formulate evidence-based recommendations on climate-smart actions that achieve healthy diets and improve nutrition sustainably, without breaching the 1.5 °C threshold. ⏩ Facilitate consensus among practitioners of nutrition and foods systems policies on a shortlist of essential actions to take. These recommendations will help inform policy makers and the donor community on how to prioritize their investments for maximum impact. Hesat2030 welcomes the commitment of G7 Agriculture Ministers to ‘make agriculture and food systems more productive, resilient and sustainable, to improve food security and nutrition.’ These are noble goals that Hesat2030 strives to achieve. Three areas in the G7 Agriculture Ministers Communiqué are particularly relevant to us: ➡️ Increasing resilience to climate change, ➡️ Developing data, metrics and analysis to inform decision-making, and ➡️ Focusing on women's empowerment and gender equality. 👏 With this important funding announcement, the UK government is demonstrating the value that it places on evidence-synthesis. Evidence-synthesis is integral to the work of Hesat2030. Through the work of the Juno Evidence Alliance, a Hesat2030 initiative, we are able to use artificial intelligence to screen millions of scientific articles and grey literature to understand what interventions are truly needed and where they can have the most impact. 🔥 This is central to Hesat2030's mission - leveraging evidence-based research, innovative technologies and coordinated action with the goal of ending hunger sustainably, nutritiously and equitably. We provides and policy-makers with the resources and tools necessary to make informed and scientifically based decisions.
Exciting news from the Summit of the Future! 🌍 UK Government has announced an initial investment of £11.5 million for AI-driven evidence synthesis. This is a major step towards accelerating evidence-based policymaking. Our work at the Juno Evidence Alliance aligns closely with this initiative, and we're committed to supporting policymakers with the data and insights they need to make informed decisions. https://lnkd.in/dpjn4h_t #evidencebasedpolicy #agriculture #foodsystems #climatechange #JunoEvidenceAlliance #UKRI

Excited that Hesat2030 Co-Chair, David Laborde, is participating in this important webinar discussing SOFI 2024 and its implications for donors and development partners. 🔔 26 September 2024 from 15.00 - 17.00 CEST SOFI 2024 provides the much-needed guidance on how to define public and private financing for food security and nutrition. By integrating finance into a core and extended definition of food security and nutrition, we are moving towards a shared understanding of the scale of financial resources being spent. And, as a result, we can make a stronger case for increasing the quantity and quality of investment towards ending hunger and malnutrition. Please see below for registration details 👇
❗Did you know?: The world is off track to meet SDG 2: Zero Hunger, and more effective innovative financing is a crucial part of bridging the gap, according to #SOFI2024. David Laborde will start the discussions by breaking down the key messages of the #SOFI2024 and their implications for donors financing food and rural development. 👉 Join our webinar this Thursday to hear more, co-hosted by the Global Donor Platform for Rural Development and Shamba Centre for Food & Climate. 🔗 Register for the webinar here: http://bit.ly/4db0YCb This Thursday, 26th September at 15:00-17:00 CEST FAO International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) World Food Programme UNICEF World Health Organization

What policy lessons can Columbia learn from international experiences? 👀 As part of #Avanzar2030, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and the University of the Andes are identifying financial instruments that can improve agricultural productivity while also environmentally-friendly through an evidence synthesis. Avanzar2030 will generate guidelines for the Colombian government to design conditional agricultural credit programs that promote sustainable practices. #Avanzar2030 works with organizations across Latin America to generate evidence of policy and institutional innovations in agrifood systems that support climate change adaptation, improve living conditions and diets, and protect food security. While this project is focused on Colombia, findings will be shared across the Avanzar2030 network with the aim of improving policy across Latin America. #Avanzar2030 is a partner of Hesat2030. Like Hesat2030, #Avanzar2030 develops evidence-syntheses to identify interventions needed to transform the region’s food system, tailored to the context of each country. Great to see the work of the Zero Hunger Coalition moving forward during the #AFSF2024 last week!
It has been an exciting time for the Zero Hunger Coalition during #AFSF in Kigali! Our Chair, Ibrahim Mayaki, had the opportunity to lead the High-level Ministerial Meeting on advancing food systems and climate actions attended by a number of ministers from across Africa. Dr Mayaki also met with the Dr Henry Musa Kpaka, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security for the Goverment of Sierre Leone to discuss the work of the Alliance of Champions for Food Systems Transformation and how it can collaborate with the Coalition. A number of Parliamentarians from the African Food Systems Parliamentarian Network (AFSPaN) discussed how to reinforce their existing collaboration with the Coalition with Dr Mayaki. The discussion continued during a cocktail reception hosted by Dr Mayaki on behalf of the Zero Hunger Coalition. The Coalition also had the pleasure to meet with Dominique Dedebge from Benin, the UN Food Systems Coordination Hub, Afshah Khan from the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, David Nabarro, Hon Jeremy Lissouba, Hon Francoise Uwumukiza, Hon Yousef Alfakri, Panduleni Elago, Aboua Léonce DOSSOU, Dr. Conrad R. and many more. Many thanks to everyone we met this week and we look forward to continuing the conversation!
