Yesterday, the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, in collaboration with SoCal Grantmakers, hosted the Homelessness Initiative Partners’ Convening, which welcomed 81 organizations from across the region. We honored the service providers, advocates, and civic leaders working tirelessly to prevent and solve homelessness in LA.   Homelessness remains a top issue for Angelenos, and this gathering demonstrated the remarkable dedication of our grantee and funder partners to achieving lasting change. As a foundation, we also reaffirmed our commitment to supporting housing-centered services and prevention efforts, and provided a brief update on our grantmaking strategy.   Los Angeles knows how to do big things. Working together, we can solve homelessness. This crisis has been decades in the making and it will take all of us – in a whole-of-region effort – to get the job done. That’s why we are so grateful to our community partners and proud to celebrate their vital contributions to our LA communities. Thank you, one and all!

Since 2011, Co-Founders Nemonte Nenquimo and Mitch Anderson have tirelessly worked to protect the Amazon rainforest, one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth and home to many Indigenous nations. DiCaprio praised the team at Amazon Frontlines for the well-deserved recognition, emphasizing the vital need to protect this crucial ecosystem and secure the future of our planet.

Amazon Frontlines officially accepted the 2024 Hilton Humanitarian Prize at this year's Hilton Humanitarian Symposium and Prize Ceremony at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles, CA. Amazon Frontlines’ remarkable model supports Indigenous people in defending their rights to land and their way of life, preserving biodiversity in the Amazon, and protecting the environment.   “The work of Amazon Frontlines demonstrates the critical role that Indigenous communities have in developing policies to protect the environment,” said Peter Laugharn, president and CEO of the Hilton Foundation. “Indigenous people are underrepresented in decision-making spaces locally, nationally and globally. Amazon Frontlines aims to change this.”   As the 2024 #HiltonPrize recipient, Amazon Frontline joins an inspiring community of #HiltonPrize Laureates, and we are so thrilled to welcome this incredible organization into this growing network of humanitarian actors.

As Jimmy Carter celebrates his 100th birthday today, we honor a lifetime of philanthropy from an individual with a remarkably compassionate heart. Since 1991, we've supported The Carter Center’s mission to eradicate Guinea worm and combat trachoma, a disease that can cause irreversible blindness. Our decades-long partnership contributed to the recent elimination of trachoma as a public health issue in Mali. “I feel fortunate to have witnessed firsthand the strength of his character, including his dedication to seeing enormous humanitarian challenges through to the end,” shared Steven M. Hilton. Hilton, who spent 30 years at the Hilton Foundation, including as President and CEO, worked directly with The Carter Center for decades on their efforts to eradicate Guinea worm and trachoma. https://lnkd.in/g4MyBZ52
