Hillsboro’s first permanent year-round shelter for adults experiencing homelessness has officially broken ground! The future shelter will meet critical community needs by offering safe sleeping spaces for up to 75 guests (and their pets) through congregate sleeping areas and 40 individual shelter pods. In addition, the new shelter will offer culturally-responsive and trauma-informed support through 24/7 onsite staff along with mental, behavioral, and physical health services. A warming kitchen, laundry, storage, outdoor seating, and recreation areas combine with the centralized location to create a space where, Metro Councilor Juan Carlos González says “guests will not only gain reprieve from the streets, but the basic services that afford dignity and meaningful pathways to housing stability.” We are so proud to be working on this project with the City of Hillsboro, Washington County, and Holst, along with all other project partners that played a role in making this happen! Recently, Holst staff toured the construction sites of the Washington County Center for Addictions Triage & Treatment (CATT) Beaverton and Hillsboro Recovery Centers. Together, the two buildings will provide comprehensive addiction treatment support. CATT will provide a critical increase in addiction support, as Oregon ranks 48th in the nation for access to substance use disorder (SUD) services, with Washington County currently having 28 residential treatment beds (source: Washington County website). The Beaverton Recovery Center (images 4-6) will provide 56 residential treatment beds, 16 beds for withdrawal management, a safe and monitored space for individuals who are acutely intoxicated, and six beds for individuals as they transition out of residential treatment or between programs. The Hillsboro Recovery Center (images 1-3) will host County Behavioral Health offices, supportive housing services, a peer drop-in lounge, mental health and addictions care services, an outpatient program, and a medical clinic. The services will connect people with mental health and substance use treatment and provide peer support, medication management, and counseling. Both buildings took a trauma-informed approach to design, maximizing natural light via skylights, using neutral color palettes, integrating wood accents, and providing access to nature through courtyards. BRC Service Provider: CODA, Inc. (intensive services) HRC Service Providers: LifeWorks NW (crisis services), Solutions Group NW (outpatient provider), Mental Health & Addiction Association of Oregon (peer drop-in center), and Project Homeless Connect (housing services). Happy International Women’s Day! Holst is a proudly queer-led and certified women-owned business. We consistently seek new ways to increase diversity and ensure equity for our staff, our processes, our teams, and the greater profession of architecture. Today, we celebrate those in the gender minority of architecture—including women, nonbinary people, and those who challenge the very idea of gender itself. As a certified B Corp and JUST Organization, we are always working on our framework for improving inclusivity and finding new ways to act on our commitment to using business as a force for good.

The Washington County Center for Addictions Triage and Treatment (CATT) projects have had many recent visitors. R&H’s teams shared site progress with four Washington County Commissioners and a group from our design partners at Holst Architecture. R&H’s project engineers also stopped by the site for a ‘PE Walk,’ where our developing leaders shared insights with their peers about their respective projects. We love getting to share about these exciting projects shaping our community!

Recovery Campus is more than just a building—it is a space designed with intention, offering safety, dignity, and support to those experiencing mental health and addiction challenges. As MHAAO’s new headquarters, it will serve as a place where individuals can engage with peer support, find community, and take steps toward recovery in an environment built for their needs. We are deeply grateful to Holst Architecture for their thoughtful approach in designing a space that is comfortable, welcoming, and trauma-informed. Their work ensures that Recovery Campus will not only be functional but will foster effective, safe, peer-delivered services for years to come. We look forward to the role this space will play in the lives of so many in our community.

IRCO's Early Beginnings Preschool: Glisan Landing is beginning to take form! As construction continues, we want to thank our generous partners for their support of this project: Holst Architecture, Essex General Construction, Inc., Related Northwest, and many more funders and donors. We look forward to ending construction in June 2025 and opening this space up to our community in the months following. 👏 ------ About the Project: In September of 2024, we were excited to announce the groundbreaking of our newest project, IRCO Early Beginnings Preschool: Glisan Landing. Located in the heart of the Montavilla neighborhood, the building's model will foster an inclusive environment designed to meet the diverse needs of our clients. This location offers convenient on-site parking and laundry facilities, along with spacious units, some featuring up to four bedrooms to accommodate larger families. In addition, this site will house the Early Beginnings Learning Center, a pre-kindergarten school that provides families with seamless access to early childhood education. We are also excited to offer instructional centers for tenants, where they can gain valuable job skills in textiles and youth education.
