Check out new photos of the recently completed Woodland Community Library as captured by photographer Lara Swimmer 📚 Taking advantage of a large site, the outdoor design includes an amphitheater, children’s garden, nature trail, flexible lawn, terrace, and rain garden. Indoor spaces prioritize flexibility, growth, and accessibility to support a broad variety of activities and the needs of different age groups. Replacing an outdated facility in Woodland, WA, this 10,000-square-foot library is the first of two new libraries Hacker is designing for the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District. About us
What can our work make possible? We are a studio of 50+ united by a desire to create spaces that enrich the world – spaces that make us feel more connected to the landscape, each other and ourselves. We believe that architecture is best when it’s an honest expression of the people and institutions it serves, when it interacts dynamically with its surroundings, makes humble use of the earth’s resources, and has an understated dignity based on carefully crafted construction and the natural beauty of materials. More than a craft or practice, we see architecture as a calling to create beauty and serve humanity, requiring from each of us our deepest listening, questioning, curiosity and engagement. #27 firm in the nation, ARCHITECT magazine, 2018

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the exhibit opening of “Any Given Day” showcasing various plen air paintings by Richard Potestio at our Portland studio last night! The exhibit is on display for two more months. — Rick strives to capture the intricate interplay of light across the Pacific Northwest’s landscape, skillfully coaxing a rich spectrum of colors while defining form and space through subtle gradations of shade and shadow. He observes that the region’s natural beauty offers an overwhelming abundance of detail, making the challenge one of thoughtful selection and precise expression. Rick’s goal is to evoke the mood of the moment and convey an authentic sense of place, inviting viewers to connect deeply with the scene. Rick Potestio worked at the Hacker office during its formative years before launching his own award-winning architectural practice in the early 1990s. Renowned for his exquisite architectural drawings, deep passion for nature, and unwavering dedication to enhancing the quality of the built environment in our region, Rick is a highly influential figure within Portland’s design community. — Photos: Corey Martin and Sarah Hacker #hackerarchitects #plenairpainting

Featured on Dezeen this week is the new Black Butte Ranch Lodge in the article "Volcanic landscape informs Hacker Architects design of Oregon lodge" https://lnkd.in/g2eekaYf "The original lodge was designed at a time when geometric complexity was in, with lots of floor levels, nooks and crannies, lofts, and a large sheltering roof. Strangely, the interior didn't really create strong connections to the incredible views around the site," Hacker principal Corey Martin told Dezeen. "We wanted the experience of the new lodge to evoke memories of the original while connecting people to the site in more meaningful ways."
