"Doctors, It's Your Turn to Tackle Nutrition" - And the Rest of Us are Waiting. 🍎🥦 This week at SOCAP Global in San Francisco, we gathered for the Food as Medicine panel to discuss a groundbreaking idea: What if... doctors actually knew about nutrition? It’s 2024, and while we have space-age tech and AI diagnosing everything from heart disease to hiccups, the link between what’s on our plates and our health remains a “mystery” in many exam rooms across the U.S. How is it that in a country facing staggering rates of diet-related illnesses—obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and more—nutrition science still takes a backseat in medical training? Imagine visiting your doctor, and instead of walking out with a prescription, you get guidance on food that actually heals. But as it stands, our doctors often can’t tell kale from quinoa when it comes to dietary advice. This is why the call for integrating rigorous, evidence-based nutrition science into medical training is so critical. Here’s the deal: We need to invest in nutrition education for our healthcare providers. Until then, at WANDA: Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics & Agriculture , we’ll keep leading the conversation, and our Food as Medicine movement will continue making waves. Because if food is medicine, it’s time for our healthcare system to start writing that prescription. "When we empower women and girls, we nourish the world." - WANDA
About us
WANDA is on a mission to lead a movement of a new crop of food sheroes from farm to health. By 2030 WANDA's goal is to touch the lives of 1 million women and girls to educate, advocate and innovate for a better life, community and food system in Africa and the Diaspora. In 2016 WANDA launched in Washington, DC and Abuja, Nigeria to build a pipeline and platform of women and girls as drivers of change in their community through food, agriculture and nutrition. Launched at the U.S. Library of Congress, the girl empowerment book series entitled “Where’s WANDA? features Little WANDA, a first-ever black girl main character who uses her 'magic' apron to travel to Africa learning of the health and beauty of African heritage foods, female farmers and culture throughout Africa. Each book highlights a real Big and Little WANDA and encourages girls to share their WANDA story. Named as the 2016 "Champion” for Children’s Wellbeing Initiative by ASHOKA and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the “Where’s Wanda?” series is inspiring girls from Africa to America to lead in becoming food sheroes in their community. With your support we can make a bigger, better impact in the lives of women and girls. Learn more at iamwanda.org or email hello@iamwanda.org.

Tasty Truth Thursday 🍽️📚🍎 ✨ Did You Know? For millions of Black and Brown children, school lunch is more than just a meal—it’s their primary source of daily nutrition. Sadly, many of these meals fall short of providing the nutrients our kids need to thrive, especially in under-resourced communities. At WANDA, we believe in voting for leaders who understand the importance of food justice and fight for nutritious, culturally relevant meals in schools. 🌱🍽️ By showing up at the polls 🗳️, we can combat childhood hunger and ensure that every child has access to healthy food that nourishes both body and mind. 💪🏾🌟 When we vote, we secure a healthier future for our communities. 🗳️🍽️👩🏾🍳 #TastyTruthThursday #VoteForOurKids #FoodJustice #HealthySchools #WANDA #FeedTheFuture
