Canadian Solar Inc., one of the world's largest solar panel manufacturers, discreetly launched seven local firms in Romania since late summer last year. The move is part of its plan to develop large-scale photovoltaic parks in the country. The number of electric passenger cars and plug-in hybrids registered in Poland increased by 20% year-on-year to 24,811 units in the period from January to July 2024, according to data from the Polish Association of New Mobility (PSNM) and the Polish Automotive Industry Association (PZPM). Registrations of fully electric vehicles (BEVs) rose 10.21% to 12,854 units, while plug-in hybrid registrations surged 32.44% to 11,957 units. By the end of July 2024, a total of 70,579 BEVs were registered in Poland, with the electric passenger car fleet totaling 122,299 vehicles. DRI , the EU renewable energy arm of Ukraine's DTEK Group, has acquired a 60 MW solar project in Glodeni, Mureș County, Romania. This marks DRI's fourth renewable energy investment in Romania, bringing its total portfolio in the country to 299 MW. The new project, Glodeni II, is expected to be operational by the summer of 2025, producing 86.4 GWh annually—enough to power over 22,400 homes and reduce carbon emissions by 21,800 tonnes per year. The Czech Republic is witnessing a second wave of the solar boom, with the installed photovoltaic capacity reaching 3.6 GW in the first half of 2024, surpassing the previous peak during 2009-2010. Carrefour has expanded its renewable energy initiatives by installing photovoltaic systems on the roofs of 13 stores in five provinces across Poland. The new installations, with a total capacity of nearly 650 kWp, are expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 448 tons annually. To offset this level of emissions, approximately 86,000 adult trees would be needed each year.
