Privileged to be a part of the Biden Cancer Moonshot's initiatives to addressing health outcomes and access to cancer treatment across the African continent. The White House's fact sheet below outlines several new actions to improve the current infrastructure of limited resource regions:
Cancer knows no borders, and neither should we. On Monday, July 15th, the Biden Cancer Moonshot, in coordination with the Department of State and the International Atomic Energy Agency, hosted the first White House Africa Cancer Care Forum that brought together 10 African nations to assess national priorities in cancer care as part of their comprehensive national strategy for improving health care systems and health outcomes. In addition, the Biden Cancer Moonshot also announced over $100 million in new commitments from both the U.S. Government and private sector to reduce the burden of cancer in Africa.

Last Monday, ICEC had the privilege of attending the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy White House Africa Cancer Care Forum, supporting the Biden Cancer Moonshot’s initiatives to improve the quality and accessibility of cancer treatment worldwide, especially in Africa’s low-resource and developing regions. ICEC looks forward to supporting this effort and continuing our collaborations with the State Department and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to achieve global access. During the forum, ICEC board member and global health security expert Monique K. Mansoura, PhD, MBA spoke on the Pathways to Progress – Diverse Approaches to Funding panel, moderated by Dr. Welela Tereffe, which highlighted the importance of securing funding and governmental support as a key part of the #BidenCancerMoonshot initiative and ICEC’s mission. It is such an honour and privilege to be invited by the IOP Particle Accelerators and Beams group to give a plenary talk in their Annual UK conference PAB 2024 on medical accelerators and the key role accelerators play in the state of the art cancer treatment https://lnkd.in/dRnHfs_n. Cancer is a huge a global challenge and in the UK, one in two people will get cancer in their lifetime and radiation therapy is considered key tool for treatment for 50-60% patients. I will be talking about FLASH, VHEE (Very High Energy Electrons (VHEE) and current research being carried out at the CERN Linear Electron Accelerator for Research (CLEAR) facility to make VHEE FLASH a reality. Special thanks to Roberto Corsini and his CLEAR team, Marie-Catherine Vozenin Joseph Bateman Cameron Robertson for sharing their research. https://lnkd.in/dQaVHiiV University of Oxford, Department of Physics John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science, Institute of Physics, International Cancer Expert Corps

KT Seminar Recording now available via link below: Global Health: Enhancing Access to Cancer Radiation Therapy (RT) The lack of access to RT in Low and Mid-Income Countries (LMICs), an area in which linacs are costly to acquire and complex to operate and service, is a growing concern that ICEC has committed itself to addressing. Project STELLA was initiated by ICEC in collaboration with CERN, STFC, UK universities and African partners in an effort to overcome those barriers to access.
