For Fortune, #IncludedHealth CEO, Owen Tripp, explores the rapid rise of #GLP1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. Initially celebrated for treating diabetes and obesity, these drugs are now being studied for their potential in tackling a range of conditions—from cardiovascular disease to depression and even certain cancers. "But they can’t solve everything. In fact, the GLP-1 phenomenon is making the fragmentation and dysfunction of our health care system even more apparent. Just as GLP-1s may help us discover the common denominator in seemingly disparate diseases, they are shining a bright light on the root causes of the health care system’s ills." GLP-1s could be a game-changer, addressing underlying causes like inflammation and reshaping how we approach chronic diseases. Yet, their popularity highlights deeper issues in our healthcare system: 💰 Cost Crisis: At up to $15,000/year, GLP-1s are putting pressure on employers and the entire healthcare ecosystem. Without price control, widespread adoption could be financially unsustainable—even risking the stability of Medicare. ⚖️ Access Disparities: While some can afford these drugs out of pocket, others, especially those on Medicare or Medicaid, struggle with access. This inequity underscores long-standing gaps in care. ⚡ Fragmented Care: With various specialists now prescribing GLP-1s, care is becoming more siloed than ever. The lack of coordination can lead to gaps in #PatientCare, missing the bigger picture of their overall health. 💡 The Prescription We Need: As the GLP-1 phenomenon grows, it’s clear that our system needs a reset: - Invest in Prevention: Focus on #PrimaryCare and #MentalHealth to address root causes. - Integrate Care: Better coordination between primary care and specialists is essential. - Outcomes-Based Payment: Shift toward models that reward better long-term outcomes, not just quick fixes. GLP-1s hold promise—but they also reveal how much work is left to build a truly effective, equitable, and sustainable healthcare system. It’s a wake-up call for all stakeholders to rethink how we deliver care. Read more from Owen's featured article: https://lnkd.in/gaE7wn-u #HealthEquity #HealthAccess #HealthCosts #HealthcareReform

VP of Clinical Excellence, Ankoor Shah MD, MBA, MPH took the stage this week at #HLTHUSA alongside an esteemed panel in partnership with Fierce Healthcare to discuss the future of #PrimaryCare: Q: How do you get primary care from surviving to thriving? A: “To elevate primary care, we must address the sequencing of priorities. Every industry seeks better compensation, but in primary care, two fundamental issues stand out: How do we define value, and how can it be consistent, standardized, and aligned with consumer demand? Dermatology, for instance, has found a direct-to-consumer model due to high demand, whereas primary care struggles with this alignment. To improve, we must create and communicate a compelling value that resonates with consumers." #HLTH2024 #VirtualCare #RetailHealth #DigitalHealth #HealthTech #HealthyDays #MoreHealthyDays #IncludedHealth

"As the CEO of a healthcare company, I've been following along… and taking notes.” For Fast Company, #IncludedHealth’s CEO, Owen Tripp, draws insightful parallels between Starbucks’ journey and the U.S. healthcare system’s current challenges. As he highlights, both industries are navigating rising costs, fragmented experiences, and overwhelmed employees and customers alike. At Included Health, we believe these lessons are invaluable for healthcare innovators: 1️⃣ Focus on experiences, not transactions A personalized, all-in-one healthcare experience should prioritize people over processes, just like the best coffee shop experiences did before complexity took over. 2️⃣ Take care of people first Our frontline workers — healthcare providers — need the same care and attention that baristas do. By reducing administrative burden and emphasizing meaningful patient relationships, we can foster a culture where both patients and providers thrive. 3️⃣ Create a ‘third place’ in healthcare Healthcare’s “third place” isn’t physical; it’s a holistic, connected experience that integrates technology and human touch, prioritizing relationships and outcomes over transactional care.
