But tapping into this federal funding requires navigating complex and challenging processes. Invest in Our Future is bridging the gap between federal investments and communities so everyone — no matter who they are or where they come from — benefits.

About us
Invest in Our Future supports philanthropic organizations to mobilize funds to ensure that unprecedented federal clean energy investments strengthen communities across the country, reduce pollution and transform our economy. Three recently passed pieces of landmark legislation – the Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and CHIPS and Science Act – provide significant opportunities to strengthen communities through investments in a clean energy economy. These new laws are expected to catalyze $1 trillion in public and private investment at a pivotal moment for our nation. Unfortunately, tapping into these federal investments can be a complex and challenging process for communities. Some might be unaware of their eligibility for funding or lack the capacity to apply and could miss out on the benefits of these historic investments, particularly rural and lower income communities, communities of color, Tribal nations and energy communities. Compounding the challenge, the U.S. also faces a shortage of skilled workers and a complex approval process for clean energy projects that could stall progress. Created by leading economic development, climate, and clean energy experts and experienced philanthropic donors, Invest in Our Future is bridging the gap between federal investments and communities so everyone - no matter who they are or where they come from - benefits.

It’s a historic day for RE-volv, the communities we serve, and the climate. 🎉 We are thrilled to announce $4M in generous support from Candide Group's Afterglow Climate Justice Fund and Invest in Our Future. This funding will enable us to finance more nonprofit solar projects, with an emphasis in historically excluded low-income communities and communities of color, while also raising awareness about the benefits of clean energy. The funding consists of: ⚡ A $3.2 million investment from Candide Group’s Afterglow Climate Justice Fund in the form of debt, enabling RE-volv to offer its zero-down solar financing products to nonprofits across the country. ⚡An $800,000 grant from Invest in Our Future to scale RE-volv’s operational capacity, while bolstering community engagement, workforce development, and storytelling activities. By offering more solar financing, we are also able to help more nonprofits nationwide access savings through the IRA’s Direct Pay Provision. As RE-volv deploys the $3.2 million of project capital invested by Afterglow Climate Justice Fund, it will unlock over $1 million of Direct Pay savings for these community-serving organizations. Two years after the Inflation Reduction Act was passed, a report finds that a group of 33 grant makers exceeded its goals for helping communities and organizations learn about, access, and implement funding through the act. The report, released Friday by Invest in Our Future and What Works Plus Collaborative, found that the grant makers had provided more than $230 million to help nonprofits and communities with 1,979 IRA-related projects in 1,722 places. Two years ago today, President Biden signed the IRA into law, accelerating America’s clean energy transition at an astonishing rate. You’ve likely seen some of the stats summing up the impact to date: Over $490 billion in new clean energy investment—a 71% increase compared to the two years before the IRA’s passage. More than 334,000 new clean energy jobs now on the way, spread across nearly every state. And a drastic improvement on our projected carbon pollution reductions over the next ten years. One very important question, though, is where the money is flowing. And so far, the IRA is delivering a significant boost to clean energy investment into underserved communities, places that might otherwise be left out of the incredible benefits of the clean energy transformation. That’s a credit to how the law was designed and, critically, to the countless people and organizations committed to bringing every community along in the clean energy transition. Invest in Our Future was founded for exactly that reason—and I am so proud of this team, and especially our grantees, for the contributions we’ve made to this effort. Through targeted technical assistance and capacity building directed towards states, cities, territories, Tribes, and other entities, our grantees have helped communities secure federal funding for project proposals totaling $16 billion. They’re running strategic communications and organizing campaigns to raise awareness and increase uptake of the incentives for household clean energy and energy efficiency upgrades. And they’re combining the IRA’s many grant dollars and tax credits to create new financing options for families, businesses, and nonprofits—making the up-front costs of rooftop solar, battery storage, heat pumps, and other clean energy projects more affordable. These are still the early days of what will ultimately be a long implementation process. But the results we’ve seen are transformative—and IRA’s remarkable power to deliver real benefits will only grow from here. I thought this article, featuring our grantee RE-volv helping to bring solar to houses of worship, told the story beautifully: https://lnkd.in/ewMFHhV3 We’ve got a lot of great work ahead of us. https://lnkd.in/ehvcYF8m
