Gail began volunteering as a HIAS Immigration & Citizenship mentor last year, helping refugee families get acclimated to living in a new country. "I have found it very rewarding to know I am helping other people and my volunteer time is making a difference to the refugees,” Gail said. HIAS needs more mentor volunteers like Gail. Our annual signature fundraising event, newly named Elevate, was a tremendous success! We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase the inspirational work of JCFS Chicago and honor Laurie and Neal Price with the Irving B. Harris Leadership Award and Cheryl Leon with the What’s Possible Award for their dedicated leadership and profound impact on our community. The event raised over $300,000 (and counting!)! Because of our incredibly generous community, JCFS Chicago can continue lifting up our neighbors by providing expert, individualized services rooted in Jewish values to more than 25,000 individuals and families in our community each year. If you couldn’t attend, you can still contribute here https://lnkd.in/gD-bSQM2. Thank you to our Elevate Co-Chairs, Liz Roberts Turnipseed and Marshall Pred, and the event planning and honorary committees for their leadership and dedication. We hope you enjoy a few snapshots from last month’s event at the beautiful Bryn Mawr Country Club. We look forward to seeing you at Elevate 2025!

Earlier this month, JCFS Chicago’s President & CEO Stacey Shor was installed on the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies (NJHSA) Board of Directors and will be serving a three-year term. “I am moved by the power amplifying human service agencies to help vulnerable people lead meaningful lives. Through our inter-connection, we build awareness, develop best practice and support each other in this critical work,” said Stacey. NJHSA stands as a collective of 170+ non-profit Jewish human service organizations spanning the United States, Canada, and Israel. Member organizations collectively provide a comprehensive array of human services for individuals across all age groups, both within and beyond the Jewish community.

JCFS Chicago hosted a panel of community experts to discuss the current state of early childhood development service delivery at its first annual symposium: Early Childhood Development: Charting A Path Forward, on Tuesday, May 14. Over 30 experts in the field of childhood development service delivery came together to discuss current challenges and potential innovative ways the system can be improved to help children and families access services. The panelists covered workforce development, early diagnosis, funding, parent support, mentoring, establishing safe spaces, training, cross discipline service delivery and so much more. Small breakout sessions in the afternoon gave attendees the chance to dig deeper into the issues and collaborate on potential solutions.

Meet the honorees of our signature fundraising event, Elevate! We are thrilled to recognize Laurie and Neal Price with the Irving B. Harris Award for their significant contributions to our community’s well-being. As a 12-year JCFS board member, Laurie oversaw several notable agency construction projects, including the Abe & Ida Cooper Center in West Rogers Park and the Seigle Campus in Skokie. Neal served on several local Jewish boards during his 30-plus years as an active Jewish community leader. As a prominent leader, philanthropist and changemaker, we are pleased to honor Cheryl Leon with the What's Possible Award. She served as the coordinator of Ezra Helpline, the basis for JCFS’ intake services. She also helped create Partnership for Safer Communities, a JCFS initiative to raise awareness about abuse prevention through education and training. Cheryl and her husband Bruce recently launched The Leon Legacy Fund for all Jews to explore their rich heritage. Read more about our well-deserving honorees here: JCFS.org/Elevate

This morning our CEO Stacey Shor was a guest barista at Will's Place, a nonprofit cafe in downtown Skokie. Friends, family and JCFS staff were on hand to sample the coffee and breakfast goodies. Will’s Place was founded by sisters Joan Hallagan and Cathy Maassen in 2022 with a goal of creating meaningful employment and vocational training opportunities for adults with disabilities. https://lnkd.in/gs5crvsc
