Growing Healthy Minds: The Importance of Early Support Good mental health is crucial for overall well-being, shaped by genetics, life events, and early childhood development. Early experiences greatly influence our self-perception, interactions, and care for ourselves. Early childhood is a critical period for mental development, emphasizing the need for supportive environments. Like physical health, nurturing children's mental health is essential. The first five years of life significantly impact a child's mental health. Positive experiences and safe environments build a strong mental health foundation, leading to future success in reading, graduation, and employment. Loving relationships with parents and adults are vital, helping children understand emotions, develop compassion, and make good decisions. However, negative experiences and toxic stress can have lasting effects, increasing the risk of mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Unstructured play is crucial, helping children develop social skills, problem-solving abilities, and stress coping strategies. At Jefferson Center, we support children and families in building a strong foundation through our Early Childhood Family Services. We also partner with Triad Bright Futures, aligning community resources to implement the Bright Futures Roadmap and Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK), providing essential support, including mental health resources for children and parents. Welcome home! It’s a feeling everyone deserves to experience, and thanks to an outpouring of support from our community, Fresh Start Baskets have been delivered to all 40 residents of our Solid Ground Apartments, many of whom are transitioning from being unhoused.    One resident moved into her unit the day before a major surgery and was moved to tears by the amount of basic items that were provided for her in her unit.
