Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis provides essential services to people of all ages and backgrounds to sustain healthy relationships, ease suffering and offer support in times of need. We are proud to say that for more than a century, JFCS has provided programs, services, and support for thousands in the Jewish and broader communities. We provide help in areas including aging services, career services, children and family services, community engagement, and counseling and mental health support. Our staff is highly trained and professional, providing culturally sensitive and confidential care that incorporates best practices.   • The 24th Annual Twin Cities Jewish Community Mental Health Education Conference will be held Sunday, Oct. 20, at Temple Israel. The keynote speaker will be Kathy Flaminio, LGSW, MSW, E-RYT-200, who is the founder and CEO of movemindfully®, a training and consulting company on the science of mindfulness, movement, and social-emotional learning. Breakout sessions this year will focus on topics such as navigating grief, election anxiety, mental health legislation, and eco-therapy, to name a few.   • Job Opening – Food Security Coordinator The Food Security Coordinator leads JFCS’ response to hunger, facilitating access to food resources for individuals and families while advocating for food justice policies and funding. They lead, plan, and facilitate outreach efforts, provide education and support to staff, and collaborate with community partners and advocacy networks. This role manages the Kosher Meals on Wheels (KMOW) program, ensuring daily operations and individualized, person-centered client support. In addition, they are responsible for the coordination of culturally sensitive emergency food boxes made available to callers and staff for their clients. The ideal person for this role is friendly, compassionate, and draws energy from interacting with others; is a good problem solver and listens actively to clients; has strong organizational and communication skills; is self-motivated to engage in a variety of tasks; and is passionate about combating barriers to food security. The ParentChild+ Early Learning Specialist (ELS) follows national guidelines in implementing the program with families. ELS provides visits to the participant’s home or community location, bringing program materials to each program participant. The participant can choose virtual visits as desired. The ELS models effective ways for parents or caregivers to increase their verbal interaction and prepare children for school success by learning through play with the use carefully selected books and toys that are provided.
